I went to Bass Pro Shop a few weeks ago, as I'm looken through all the Millions of different brands I came along to Lucky Brand Lures.
Can anybody tell me why there 15 to 30 bucks a pop for one lure? Is it the indorsments of Kevin Van Dam? Or do they just actually make the Bass want to jump straight in your boat with one look at the lure.
Maybe a different type of lure action?
Rapala 5 to 10 bucks > Lucky 15 to 30

You are paying for a name. I have $.99 Walmart cranks that catch just as many fish. A good friend that is a bass pro just got back from a family visit to Japan. He came back with a couple baits worth $150! He regularly spends $30 on cranks but i catch just as many fish if not more. It just hurts him more when he looses one.[

I own quite a few Luckys along with others. They just work better. I've caught more fish useing them than others. But I do cry if I lose one. [:/][:/]

Hmm, I wish lures weren't hit and miss. I have to buy them to try them, but if they don't work I wasted a few dollars.
Its like my wife asks me all the time "Why do you have to buy so much of this crap, dosen't just one work?" HAHA better to have it then not have it when you need it.

That's the key. Hard lures are so hit or miss that you can spend a ton of cash trying to find what works. You can have a box full of $25 crankbaits and still get skunked in a tourney.
As for Lucky Craft, I think they are quality baits. You'll notice much finer details molded into the more expensive hard baits and usually a more detailed paint job. I don't know how much that matters since the baits are usually motoring along pretty well.

The link above is a Lucky Craft bait that I try to keep on hand at all times. It works best in warmer water and 4 or 5 feet of water, maximum.
As far as crankbaits go, some of the best crankbait fishermen (Elite pros) fish cheap crankbaits. Rick Horton fishes Bomber and Kevin Van Dam fishes Strike King. Either of those can be had for $4.50 to $7.00 a pop.

I buy the cheap 1.00 crank baits and spinners at wal-mart now. Its not the lure its the fisherman I've learned.
In these modern times lures are pretty much all the same. If you are going for saltwater fish you do need a quality lure but for bass even the cheapest will work if you know how to present it to the bass.
I do not chump change on my top water baits or plastics though but for spinner baits and plastic worms they are all the same to me.
If you are on a budget don't worry about what lure you buy, just learn how to present it to the bass and you will the strikes.
It's up to you to get them to the bank.

I agree, but I just might have to try a few out just to see what the stink is about.

Try visit some of those Japanese bass fishing web sites. A lot of them have a "Lost Lure" page. It lists the lure with a picture. Tells about how the lure was lost, and gives the price. I've never seen one under $15. [sly][sly][sly]
A neat place to visit is a "Used Tackle Store". (almost every fishing store has a Used Lure section)
The Japanese bass fishermen I've met like the best, most expensive, tackle they can get..... and when a new model comes out, they buy it. Their "old reel" is traded in like we would trade in a used car.
So you can get an excelent condition, $500 Stella reel, for 1/2 of what it cost 8 months ago.
Aloha,
Stan

I assume your talking about Lucky Craft lures. To me they are worth the price. I've caught more bass on their cranks, jerk baits and rattletraps than any other brand. Just something about the action gets the bass excited. I've won a number of bass tourneys using them.

I have fished a lot of lures over the years and lucky craft lures do work better then alot of others do...But color matters as well, but they do work I now have over 100 of them and still getting more...

There are two types of lures i have found, one type that catches fish and the other type catches fisherman. It's not the lure that's important its the way you use it.
