Got the phone call we've been waiting for...boat ready!
So off we went after work with our trusty companion Hershey for a ride up to Hyrum.
Weather was nasty heading up the canyon…heavy snow/rain mixture…As we drove by Mantua it’s still ice covered...far east side looks open but not much. Took 6800 into Hyrum and drove past Hyrum reservoir...different story as Hyrum is totally ice free.
Got to Lee’s Marine hooked up das boat and chatted with him and his wife for a bit…He said he’s heard some folks have landed some nice Browns outta Hyrum when the ice came off. Then Lee proceeded to tell us about the maintenance he’d performed…glad we took the boat in for its pre-season check-up along with scheduled maintenance…well worth it…Lee showed us the kicker motor water pump…blades were shot and one blade fell out (impeller photo attached)…Lee found other things in dire need of replacement while showing us all the parts he replaced along with all the scheduled maintenance he performed spark plugs/oil/filters et
So as I believe I’ve said before, Lee’s in Hyrum is a TOP-NOTCH THUMBS-UP marine establishment by us…a little bit of a drive but well worth it to keep the boat and motors in top working condition…if you use your boat like we use ours…get the scheduled maintenance done when it’s due by someone who knows what the hell they’re doing.
Started the ride back about 4PM...weather still wasn't the greatest good snow and rain mix...traffic was heavy and of course everyone was driving like a bat-outta-hell through Sardine Canyon to be expected with it being Friday and folks headed home.
Several cars were in front of me and passing alongside with semis coming up from behind...all of a sudden I see something in the road after a car passes over it...it looked like an entire truck or semi mud flap attached to the metal bar...
I couldn’t really swerve much to miss it (boat is on a tandem axle trailer) and the boat’s passenger side tires weren't so lucky THUMP, THUMP, THUMP as I was able to swerve just enough that the Durango tires missed it but boat trailer didn’t...now I'm going downhill about 60MPH weather sucks and I'm looking out the side mirror and the just our luck 2-3 minutes later I see the trailer tire looks to be going flat...I just crested another hill and started going downhill about 1-2 miles the other side of Mantua...vehicles and semis scream by...
Pull over on the shoulder as far as I can once at the bottom of the hill…and begin the fun and yippee skippee job of changing the tire with heavy snow/rain mixture and 3-4 feet away from vehicles traveling 65+ MPH and that’s the side of the flat…figures is all we can say…
Get the spare off, loosen the flats lug nuts and then I get to try out a ‘MUST’ piece of equipment I purchased a couple of years ago…never used it so heres the link to see what I’m talking about…

No fussing with a jack trying to find where to place it then pumping it up…etc…just backed the trailer up onto the Trailer Aid raising the flat…had the flat changed in under 10 minutes. Not bad for two ole gals with Hershey ever-so-mindful watch’n out the back window of the Durango.
So if I may recommend another piece of equipment it would be the Trailer Aid if you pull trailers with tandem axles…if you’re like me…I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it…if you know what I mean.
So…we're now chomping at the bit to hit the soft water for our 2009 shake-down cruise. Think’n we may head to Willard later today or tomorrow for a couple of hours.
