The heat certainly came on today.
The temp sky rocketed to mid 90s
for the first time in a long time.
I knew the Peacocks were going to
be out in force today. First early
in the morning, me and the boys got
some sunfish action. We used my favorite
little crappie top water.

I got me this sweet Redear Sunfish!

My boy Brod got himself plenty of these
perfect eatin sized Gills.

Ol Jrod my youngest tagged this monster Gill!!!

Since the temp was so hot, I got me the
4 inch yelloe Banjo wich worked well the last
time, and headed for some cover in a bridge.

After a few casts at a group of shadows under
the structure I tagged this nice Peacock!

I let the yellow banjo sink in the drop off
and it got hammered deep below. I got me
this beautiful Bass!! Never caught a Bass on
a yellow lure before. Guess we learn something
new every day! LOL

Right before the day ended, my lure got smashed
real hard!! It was an impressive hit, I knew it
was a Peacock, and a nice one!!
It was a big bull Male Peacock!! Fought like
a pittbull too. What a great end to a great
day.

Thanks man, glad you liked the post.
Seems like the bite started here in
Florida. Hopefully it's a sign of things
to come. Looking forward to the coming
months as the temp starts to stabilize.
Still waiting for some new lures to arrive
and test them out on these aggressive
Largemouths and Peacocks.
Take care bro.

Very nice man. You referred to the banjo. Is that the banjo minnow stuff? I saw em on TV the other day, and we were actually makin fun of them a little bit. but if they really work, then I do need to check into em.

Can't wait till our water temperature (74)starts rising and the peacock bass come out of hibernation. [Smile]

I wish we had some of those big bluegills.
Great story... go fishing again, we want more....

Hey Simp
I've been using Banjo minnows since they came out two
decades ago. It's not so much how realistic the minnows look, but how realistic YOU can make it move. It's the reason these lures get such mixed reviews, they are either great or worthless. but the fact is it's a matter of some anglers get the movement down pact and catch many fish, others can't seem to get the right motion to attract fish to bite.
It's one of those lures you really need to practice with to actually catch any fish with it.

Hey Stan
I assume you're from Hawaii, I thought you had sunfishes there too. What else do you catch in fresh water there beside the Peacocks, any Largemouth Bass?

Well, if it's worth buying its certainly worth practicing with. Smile

Good catch. Nice pics.

Another good day for you migrod. Looks like the fish have turned on. Temps in the low 70's here for the first time in six months. We caught a mix bag as well. [fishin] Just starting to get turned on here.

Wow. That was a nice mix bro. I bet some fish tacos would be in order after the nice Gills. hehe[cool]

I really hope to get to Florida strictly for fishing for the peacocks, they are beautiful

Awesome fish. I took my family down to miami two years ago. I didn't have the money for a guide. So i tried to figure it out and try to find somewhere where there where peacocks. But no such luck. So next time i am in miami. I am going to get me a guide 6 months in advance so it will be paid for. But what can you do. Has long has we had fun. But i did have a barracuda on for like 2 seconds. i didn't know they got that close to shore.
Keep tight lines.
