Well I've been looking into finally taking the dive and getting a fishfinder. This will be my first unit ever. None of my friends have one either. I mainly do alot of Lure Bass Fishing, so i cover alot of water in ponds and small lakes. I'm speculating that its not going to be too hard to learn though. I'm pretty good with electronics. Anyway, I'm looking for the the best portable FF that i can get under $200,preferably under $150, but will spend the extra $50 if worth it. I usually only fish ponds or small lakes. I dont have a trailor, I lift the boat in and out of truck. I've been looking at getting the Humminbird Fishin buddy 130 or 140c (color display). they get really good reviews.

You might try using the search option. Another option would be the float tubing board as it has a archives and help post with a lot about different finders.

the 565 has a bigger screen but is black n gray...the 343c is color but smaller screen. does the smaller screen really effect what you can see below? which has the best specs. this will be my 1st ever FF, but i want it to be a good one so i dont have to upgrade soon, i'd like it to last awhile. i want the one that shows the best detail, with baitfish etc.

A couple of my friends have used the Humminbird 343c and have done very well with it. They also have used the Piranhamax 190c and had success. Humminbird has a few more portable units along with Eagle and Garmin has one also. I have come across this site that has a large variety of fish finders you might be interested in.
