Any one fihe since the ice went out??

A;so is the black taile ramp open??[fishin][fishin]

Hit it for a little bit today. Started out by Juniper and there were a few others fishing, but there were zero fish present. Went the back road to Blacktail side and found the gate open to the ramp. Almost the entire ramp is out of the water still, but boats could be launched. Talked to a nice gent there that was fishing but he hadn't had any luck either today, but landed one yesterday. The Juniper side is slightly stained, the blacktail side is pretty muddy. The guy I was talking to said yesterday the F&G were up there depositing traps trying to catch some walleye. Apparently they have found a few around 20-22" and a fair number more around 18" (second hand info though). Hopefully I can find a few of them this summer and try my hand at those eyes!

Thanks for the update.

Glad to see the eyes are here to stay. Keep them trout I will eat eyes any day

The ramp should have almost 6 feet of water above the end of the ramp. I checked the ramp data Sun on the net[fishin][fishin][fishin]

I don't like the fact someone illegally planted the eyes, but I would not have a problem at all going up there and catching them since there is no place any where around this area that has eyes. Driving to Onieda is just to far to drive to fish from here. I really hope they take off.

Got the boat in the water both Sunday and Monday. Put in at Juniper and motored halfway up the lake untill we found ice. We trolled along the ice sheet and did very well. Tons of Kokanee. They were quite fond of anything pink but the pink and white needlefish produced the best. We also caught a dozen or so cutts. All fish were released to swim another day. We trolled four colors of the leadcore as most of the schools were showing up at twenty feet on the finder. Hope the info helps. Good luck.

I walked the shore with my fly rod today. Caught one little cutt (12" or so) and that was it. I only fished for half an hour though. Missed several other hits.

I guess that they have already takin off. they are worried about them takin over Rire. Eyes are a very aggresive fish as i understand and will take over any water enviroment that they are introduced to. but on that note i do think that it will be fun havin somethin to fish for. but if they get into the snake what will that mean for the trout population??

no different than the splake that are been sent down Willow creek over the years. Also the Koke's have been let out down stream[fishin][fishin][fishin]

There is a little difference as the Splake and Kokes are sterile. The Walleye are not.

Not real worried about it since it seems trout and walleye seem to live together in other lakes and rivers with no problems. I can't wait to catch a walleye. I have never caught one before or tasted a walleye, but I hear they are very good.

Why don't the turn Mackey reservoir into a walleye fishery since there is no way for the walleyes to get into the Snake from there. Just a thought.

I really wish they would. To me, that is an excellent place for Walleye. There is no chance a Walleye could go anywhere. While they are at it, they should put in some Perch also. Maybe we should send [url "mailto:F@G"]F@G[/url] a few hints.

Edit: I think I found out why they won't put Walleye up that way. ---> [url "http://fishgame.idaho.gov/cms/fish/programs/whitefish.pdf"]Big Lost River Mountain Whitefish Plan[/url]
They are trying to save the whitefish up there I guess because they are dieing out. They seem to be special because they are a different strain of whitefish due to the fact that they have been seperated from the rest of the whitefish in the state for so long.

I figured there had to be a reason. Thanks for doing some research. To bad though, they could do some cool things with that fishery seeing as how it just drains into the sand.

It looks like [url "mailto:F@G"]F@G[/url] are thinking about planting more Splake in Ririe sometime in the future. I guess they quit because they thought they were all dieing and never survived very well until people started pulling out some nice sized Splake. I have never caught a Splake either, so that would be another item on my "To Do" list.

Here's a possible scenerio. I don't think we need more Bucket biologists. My opinion they should be shot. The F&G plant certain fish in the reseviors for a reason not for some dumb ass to ruin a whole fishery. Now if there are walleyes in there they are predators and possible to hurt the other fish populations. So one day you say lets go to ririe to catch some kokes and I say thery are gone the bucket man let them die off you'll say lets catch some perch I'll say go to roberts pond they're bigger there. you'll say lets catch some cutts, I'll say they're to small the walleye are competeing for their food source so they aren't growing.

I agree, I've just figured out those Kokanee after two years to where I can just about always catch my limit be it summer or winter. And I personally could care less about catching some walleye. However there seems to be allot of people around here that would rather catch walleye than about any other fish. So I thought it would be better if F&G stocked up Mackey with walleye and then the moron who took it upon himself to plant Ririe would have been satisfied with Mackey and left Ririe alone.

Well from the way that i understand it the eyes have been in rire for a number of years. fish and game keeps finding older and older fish. so i think that its gonna be alright. if nobody has noticed that they are in there yet then as long as we keep an eye on them i think that nothing really is going to change. i don't know much about walleye i know that they are a really aggesive big perch(well in the same family). so yeah lets all just hope for the best cause its to late to try and do anything about it now without hurting all of the fish in Rire. so yeah. besides the cutts that come out of there are discusting. i caught one one time that was about 16 inches long but its body was only as big as its head in girth. it look like an eel in a cutts body. but its a cool place to take young kids so they can catch fish. and when it comes to that it don't matter what kind of fish it is as long as they are catching fish. give them a good experience while they are young so they learn the value of being able to experience the things that we have right in our own back yard.

Two state records have been taken from Ririe.

A friend and I did some fly-fishing 4-9. The river was clear, higher, and really moving. We caught fish just down from the road before, but we didn't even get a bite this time.

I agree the Bucket Biologists should be shot, but we have what we have now so I am going to enjoy it. I just hope everything works out. I agree the Cuts are long and skinny and nothing like you would find in the Snake. I practice some C&R with those Cuts for that reason. I prefer the Kokes any way. I had planned on heading up there today, but the GF changed my mind. [:/] Maybe next weekend. [fishin]

In the Friday or Saturday Post Register there was a part of the editorial that gave the state law makers jeers for passing or introducing a law dealing with illigally introduced species. The paper only talked about wolves and making it a felony. It seemed if they had there own agenda and had no idea about the walleyes.
