im making one last ditch effort to get ducttaped4runner into a steelhead tomorrow. given the season will be closing soon. he has never caught one. but he has tried many many times.

Has anyone checked out ducttaped4runner's gear? His rod in particular? I ask because that was my main reason for getting skunked. I wouldn't have believed it becuase I've been fishing since crist was a corpral and never thought a rod made a whole lot of difference. I used my M/H Ugly stick for Kings in AK and knocked'em dead so I thought I could use it the same way for Steelies...Nope! I swithched rods to a 8'6 med and bagged 3 in one day. I reallt felt a difference between current, bottom and pick ups. Not trying to ruffle any feathers, just trying to help out if possible.
Headed out weekend of 18 Apr, looking for a place to go for steelies, any help?

if you can get 4runner to fish with anything other than an ugly stick more power to you i have tried for a couple years now. hes an ugly stick junky but if he doesnt want to catch fish thats his deal. lol [

I totaly understand, I was also one of them, an Ugly stick junky, [#ff0000]BUT [/#ff0000][#000000]someone pryed it from my dead cold hands and now I catch steelies. I know how hard it is to change but after 8hrs of staight fishing in a hole where people were pulling fish out all around me I had to do something. [/#000000]
So maybe you can tell me, where should I go the weekend of the 18th, Challis or S/F Clearwater? I did well last weekend on S/F Clearw but don't know how fast they run and if they will be up too high on the spawn. Any suggestions?

The fishing has been spectacular on the SF Cw for a long long time now so I would be expecting it to peter out at any minute. However I expect the fishing to explode from Challis up to Stanley over the next two weeks and be good right up to the end of the season. I wouldn't even be surprised if they extended it.

Hey that sounds good to me, it will save me an hour of driving. Do they usually get hot in Challis after the S/F Clearw? I never fished Challis area, is it the same water flow? Do you think your gonna be there the weekend of the 18th to show me the hot spot?[

So is Challis upstream or downstream from Stanley and the sawtooth hatchery?
Are you predicting that fishing near Stanley and the sawtooth hatchery should be good April 22-24? (Fingers crossed!)

challis is about 40 miles downstream from stanley. I hope there are still fish in stanley by the 22nd i know they have had something like 1100 fish go threw the hatchery in the last couple days. Just keep looking at the fishing reports and the hatchery counts.

today the sawtooth hatchery is reporting that they have only had 885 fish over so must of been wrong yesterday.
