Headed down to the Portneuf River today since I have not fished it for many years and F@G said in there report the fishing was "Excellent". [:/] I should have known better than to believe the report. I fished from a few miles below Lava, around the steel tressel bridge on the hiway, the waterfalls, just above McCammon, over by Inkom, and just south of Poky. Nothing at all. No bites, no fish jumping. It was like the dead zone. I tried streamers, leeches, midges, nymphs, cronomid, and even threw in a worm here and there on the other pole. Nothing. I got skunked for the first time this year. Not even a sucker. [frown] The water was green and dirty but looked about normal on the level. I could not even tell you how many flip flops and pop/water bottles I seen in the river. I use to enjoy fishing this river, but after today I think I will find some where else to play.

I had the same thing happen in the fall. I was told and read that there were supposedly some monster browns in there. I tried everything I could and never got a single hit.

I have caught some nice browns out of there. That is the reason I liked fishing it, but it was not the same today. It looked dirty and polluted. It is definatley not the river I use to fish. In one spot I counted 23 flip flops floating behind a head gate. I use to be able to goto the water falls and land fish all day long. I guess it is like some of my other favorite places that have gone to ****. I guess it is time to look for some new fsihing places.

I had the same thing happen to one of my favorite runs on the Boise River. It was an awesome spot I would go to almost every night after school. Always pulled out plenty of fish, nice browns and bows. They decided that they needed to change the water flow to go into some peoples backyards. They tromped all around the river in big tractors moving it all for a couple days. When they finished my run was completely changed and ruined. Not a single thing I could do about it.

I caught a pig on the Portneuf a few days after Thanksgiving. 26" Brown. Can't find the picture right now, or I'd attach it. Don't give up on the Portneuf completely.

Of all the flip-flops you are complaining about, how many made it home with you and into your garbage can?

Edited: found the picture.

I may try it again later on this fall.

None. They were behind the headgates where I could not get to them if I wanted to or in an area of still water where everything was completely covered in moss. I did not have my waders on.

Edited: found the picture.

Nice fish
