Hey windriver, (or anybody else who knows)
I think I remember you talking about bass fishing quite a bit up there, I've tried it a couple times but only caught small ones up to about a foot. Are there any big ones there? I haven't caught a big bass for a few years, and I'm starting to itch a little[fishin]. I'm just wondering if I should have any hope at Ririe.

Wow, I'd take a 5 lb smallie! I guess I'll put in some time this summer. If you have any secrets that you would like to share I'd be all ears (I'll let them all go I promise!).

I catch a lot of bass in the size range you describe, but I also get the occasional 2 pounder and my buddy caught one that went 3# last spring. I have heard stories of the 5-8# bass from there, but have yet to see any physical or photographic evidence of it. If anyone has some I'd love to see it.

I have personally caught several smallies in the 16" range. I do not go by weight because I don't carry a scale. When they get that big they are fat and hit really hard.
I bought a lot of bass fishing stuff over the winter and I am looking forward to trying it out. I love using my flyrod for the small bass. They often hit poppers before the light comes over the canyon wall.

Ok, I'm not too afraid to show a bit of ignorance here, cause I did take the time to attempt to google earth "Rire" "Rire River" "Rire Reservoir" etc with no luck. [crazy] So where is this place?

i have seen a photograph of a 10 lb large mouth that is still in Ririe somewhere. fish and game did a fish count at ririe 2 years ago they do the electrode fishing well one of the bass they shocked up was a 10 lb large mouth they even had a picture of it in the postregister. but they said there were a couple 10 lb bass that they had shocked that year in ririe. so they are in there. as far as tips for that res. the only thing i really use is a size three single tail grub in any earthy color pumpkin smoke watermelon any browns greens will do carolina rigged and i drag it real slow across the bottom. the only time i do anything different is when they are spawning in the shallows up medow or willow creek then i will throw spinners and shallow running crank baits at them. last year i got into some top water fishing with plugs in july now that is a blast watching those fish explode on those plugs.

lol, gotta love it when someone just has to check to see how sharp that stuff really is. Chrome junky just spilled the beans on all my good methods for catching bass up there (in general terms), but then I probly would have to if some one asked nice[
]. I can't wait for that place to warm up a bit a get some fishing in.

I have had a lot of success drop shotting Ririe with the same colors. Sometimes a Chartruse tail really gets their attention.

lol sorry guys but obviously carolina rig is no secret i dont have a problam telling people how to catch bass cause most people catch and release them most like i said you know i was thinking the walleye in ririe might help start producing bigger bass if the walleye start picking off some of the little ones.

I agree i think that the walleye are goin to think out the perch and the little bass in turn letting more mature and and possibly over the next ten years with some managment create an awesome walleye bass and cutthroat fishery. i think that if it is taken us this long to realize that they were in there and the fishin for koks has only gotten better over the past couple of years. this just may be what rire needs to start producing some fish with some size. if you think about there really isn't a good population of preditory fish in rire to help manage the population. they cutts could be considered but i find them more of an oppertunistic eater.

bass are predators they eat almost anything alive. crayfish worms other fish birds bugs frogs lizards baby turtles but i think the bass in ririe tend to lean more to a crayfish diet.i have caught bass up there and there mouths were so full of crayfish i was surprised it made room for my grub. i use alot of soft plastic crayfish at ririe also that what i tend to get my bigger fish with
