feels good not to get skunked for walleye finally. It was nothing big but it was a hump that I was determined to get over. Now that I have one under the belt I can start focusing on catching some bigger fish. My report is that the walleye are in full spawn mode and are acting that way. I caught a little 14" male that was milking all over the place. the water is chocolate milk colored so I was using bright jigs. I also hooked into another fish that felt better but was not confirmed. I also saw some others pulled out on my second outing during the evening. One of which was caught by wrongway johnson!!! it was a very nice looking male about 20 and some others that I diddnt get a close look at. It seems to me like the warmer parts of the days get them spawning and the males are being more aggressive throughout the evenings fending off egg invaders. It nice to have some confidence back.

Good luck, the spawn is over

Way to go FOD [cool] This has been a tough spring for eyes. Seems like their getting a late start on all the waters.
Should do nothing but get better from here on out.

As far as fishing with my son goes. I had all ready talked to Chad Miller about it last sat. while he was fishing Willard with me. So he had first shot at it.
I am sorry about that.
Good luck.....I'm sure you will do well.

mactuna,
@ Starvation walleye are in full spawn mode I dont think it is over out there like it is @ Willard or Utah lake. Some might be done but I think for the most part they are still doing their rituals. The cold weather that will be here for the next few days might make it hard to fish much, but I might have to still try.

Thanks, I thought it would be over by now. Weather has a big part in it.

thanks for considering me, hopefully someone else is looking for a partner. I do think it would have been cool to fish with some guys that have been in tournaments in the past. I am what you might call a novice tournament fisherman. Maybe I will be a LUCKEY novice tournament angler.....LOL.

BTW I wasnt calling you "OLD" that is just how I refer to my dad. I am not going to disrespect my elders......HAHAHAHA

I will see you guys fishing the day before if you make it out early.[Wink]

I picked up a male Friday night at Willard that was still milking so I'm not too sure they are all done there yet, probably getting close though.

that is interesting PACKFAN I though they were done.

Went out again today and made it 2 for 2 but today I caught 2 of the little guys. Again, smaller males but I am still pleased with my success. I did take pics. First pic is yesterdays walleye the second two are from today.

Make that 3 days in a row without a SKUNK........ yea I am pumped.

Decided to ignore the cold and wind and give Starvation another mid day attempt. The water in the inlet is still chocolate milk. The rest of the lake looks like a nice turquoise color. The wind was horrible so I stuck close to the inlet. Using bright jigs. I slowly fished them right off the bottom. Caught 2 more walleye. 1 was smaller about 14" and 1 was nice 18 1/2 male that made a milky mess. One detail that I thought was neat was as I was pulling in the larger of the two there were about 4 or 5 smaller males that kept biting at it and followed him in all the way to my feet. I guess they wanted him to show them how to spawn. Too bad I get to eat him, but I released the smaller one to grow up. Only fished for 2 hours till I got sick and tired of loosing my jigs. I have slim pickins left in my jig box. I need to make it out to buy some more. Open water does not eat as many as the diversion inlets rock monsters. I am going to have to keep an eye on the water levels later in the summer. When it goes down I will go reclaim all my lures and jigs ,and others as well. I am sure somebody has already thought of that but well see who gets there first each day...LOL I bet I have lost over 50 items now mostly jigs though. I stopped throwing expensive hardware in there a couple weeks ago.

Enough rambling here is the pics

The hooks might be rusty and water worn by then though.

i may just use scuba gear before too long.... I am not too worried though loosin jigs aint like loosin no rapalas

BTW caught one more walleye today, but went out this evening it was not so good, I did not see any fish caught tonight.

here is todays fish. I let it go so I DIDDNT get a measurement but I think it was about 18"

If your not losing lures your not in the right area, how true it is. Nice catch. What was water temp ? Is the lake full yet ?

That is funny I was telling a guy last night the same thing about if your not loosing lures then your not fishing slow and deep enough and your not going to catch anything at this time of the year.

I am not sure about the water temp I am not fishing from a boat. The water level is almost at its peak, I have never seen it this high. In the past 3 days it has come up probably 8-12''. Yesterday they lowered the flows going into the lake from the diversion inlet, so maybe it is full. When are you going to go out fishing?

Next weekend, if you want you can fish with us on our boat

Nice fish FOD. It is good to hear the water is nice and full. Hopefully it last`s into late summer. Were you having to tip your jigs with crawlers or twister tails? I might have to loose some lures with ya one of these days. Do you live in Duchesne? Later
Fish on.

OK I am always up for a boat invite. I will be out there again starting on Monday. and will most likely be there for the weekend. I am not sure how the fishing is on the main lake I have only been fishing moving water in the channel. I saw guys on a boat today that diddnt do as well us, the guys on shore.

Hey I was not tipping my jigs with anything. Just a jig head and plastic curly tail bodies in bright florescent colors. Bright green, yellow, orange. You better stock up.
I did use a procure scent every once in a while when I was using unscented plastics.
Not sure if it made much difference. I caught fish with or without it. And no I am not from Duchesne I am from SLC, but I work out in Altamont which is about 15 min away from town. Also you should come fishing sometime it is fun stuff.

NOW FOR MY FINAL REPORT ON STARVATION FOR THIS WEEK:

Yes I went back to starvation one more time on my way back to SLC. OH boy I am glad I decided to giver a go. I caught 4 walleye today the first three were pretty nice but the fourth was the kicker. Over 3 # and over 20 " Caught them the same way I have all week, jigging slow and low in the diversion inlet. One guy there was nice enough to snap a photo and I released all my fish today. Even the big one. I think I got even with starvation this week. I also saw two more over 20" get pulled out today + a nice smallmouth.

I will be fishing at willard tomorrow lookout wipers and walleyes!!!!!!!!!
