Im going on a family trip up to Island Park from Salt Lake for my second year from July 2- July 10 and i did some fly fishing on the river last year with alright sucess. But im wondering what is good up there around this time of year on the Henrys Fork, Henrys Lake, and other colse waters for a fly fisherman? Anything will help me out
Thanks

Henry's should still be decent. You may need a boat though since it's likely the fish will have started heading for deeper waters by then. Also all along the Henry's Fork should be good. I have often fished near Coffee Pot canyon and done well and also on the Buffalo river just upstream from where it dumps into the Snake below Island Park Dam. Another spot to try if you aren't looking for reel big fish is to wade the Henry's lake outlet. I usually will access it where it crosses the road a mile or so behind the Island Park Resort. Get out of site of the road in there and you should get into fish in the overhangs and the holes.

Great advise on where to go that time of yr-I would make sure you had pale morning duns from size 14-18. Also prince and bead-head nymphs are always a good bet for the Buffalo. An adams and light cahill in the same sizes above...make sure to fish the last 90 min of light when fishing those rivers...by far the best producing for dry fly fishing. If you have a boat/float tube or similar Henry's would be great,-fishing near the hatchery is a good idea with a float tube/pontoon that way if the wind comes up you can get off the water without going against the wind. Purple beadhead or blood-red beadhead leech patterns fished on a sinking line....try both short/quick and long/slow retrieves. Good luck!

All good advice so far. Also, the mighty Madison is just over the small hill from Henry's Lake, and that is usually salmonfly time there. That's good and bad. Good because the fish will be looking for big bugs and caddis. Bad because it will likely be crowded for the same reasons.
The whole Henry's Fork should be fishing well, especially evenings as was mentioned. Fish a size 16 Rusty Spinner around dusk on any of the local waters.

Can't top all of the advice so far, but just an idea. If it's really hot, you may consider going over the hill to Hebgen. It typically stays cooler up there and the fishing is better late in the year than Henry's.

what are some good flies to use on the rivers? As in the henrys fork and near by waters, and the madison that time of year??

I would recomend checking at Jimmysflyshop.com or BS fly's at Pond's Lodge for recomendations throughout that area. Also Arons (sp?) flyshop in West Yellowstone could give you some good advice on the Madison if not all those areas as well. I personally like to go with a standard elk hair caddis or a hopper pattern most the time, but then I hardly catch anything on a fly rod[:/]
