There are a lot of great spots around Oxford. However, some of the best will have to be "shown" to you by someone local. Sure, you can find Toby Tubby Creek ... but can you find the 'dynamite hole' on the creek? Places such as the "Pecan Orchard" or "Silo" you might be able to find with directions. There are a lot of great spots that are adjacent to Sardis Lake, as well as, great spots on the lake itself. A lot of great creeks ... Clear Creek, Turkey Creek .... etc.

For more laid-back fishing, try out Puskus Lake. I remember when it was first built and how many years they kept it closed before opening it for fishing. I haven't been there in a while but assume it's still a nice little spot to fish. Bass, Catfish, Bream ... etc.

If you're not familiar with the Oxford area at all, just ask for directions to Sardis Lake or Puskus Lake.

Hope that helps a little.

I grew up in Horn Lake, MS and fished Sardis and Arkabutla lakes all the time and the former poster is correct. For most the really great "honey hole" action someone will probably have to show you in person. Most of those type of spots are out of the way and hard to even give directions too.

Highway 51 running north from oxford, MS has an unbelievable amount of fishing areas all the way north to Nesbit. Arkabutla lake; a reservoir of the Coldwater River is known for its large crappie, Some of the creeks running into Arkabutla right off of highway 51 have produced Bass consistently over 10lb to 16lb and large channel and blue cats and some of the largest huge Slab Crappie you can catch anywhere in America.

But, and not to discourage you, you will probably need a local to find the "secret spots" in the backwoods of northwest Mississippi.

But there's tons of great small ponds as well as reservoirs where you will catch many varieties of fish. This part of the country has some of the best Bass, Crappie, Bream, and Catfishing anyone could ask for.

aleslie2: Toby Tubby Creek!!! Omg. Big balsa wood Tennessee Shad deep diver in spring on that creek is a monster taker. I remember back in the 70's when my brothers and I would go there with that lure and catch 10.lb + all day long!
