Just curious... Spring runoff is in the works, and the rivers are starting to blow out.
So, where do you focus your fishing efforts this time of year? Do you still brave the rivers and streams with their high murky flows, or do you head to still waters to test your luck?
Do you tactics change? Just interested in people's thoughts.

I personally change to the lakes. Of course I am more of a lake man most of the time anyway. As the lakes ice off they can be very hot at this time of year. Think Chesterfield, Deep Creek, Weston, Treasurton, Danials, Devils Creek, etc... As the water hits 60 degress you can switch to the bass lakes, Glendale, Twin Lakes, Johnson, Condie, etc...
I don't like fighting the high water.

I agree, I usually either switch to lake fishing, or just not fish as much untill the water starts to go down. I'm really excited for salmon flies this year though, which is usually just after the water just barely starts to go back down from what I hear.

Run-off is one of my favorite times to fish, I have found the fish don't care what's going on around them. They are Aggresive, I have caught some of my biggest fish during high water. Those big browns that are hard to find most the year are feeding during high water, day or night.

I usualy shut it down while the rivers blow, i dont fish many lakes except for ice fishing, and a couple other runs. Its not the high water that i dont like its that its usualy a mucky mess.

I usually head to the reservoirs, but this year they seem to be dead right now. It does give me time to get my yard work done so I will have time to fish later tho.

I've still been trying to hit the river. When the wind isn't blowing like crazy it is usually alright. These past two days I have got skunked though. So I went to Roberts pond a couple of times and caught a planter and some perch. I'm hoping to get some good still water fishing in tomorrow.

If the river is high, but fairly clear, I'll still fish it. I agree you can hook into a lot of big fish, but it can be tough landing them when the jump into the current and head downstream. Once the river is brown and murky, I usually try for lakes. Hopefully they'll pick up soon, because so far I haven't been blown away this year. I also keep my eye on any tailwater stretches that may have lower flows. Additionally, some of the smaller tributaries will clear up sooner, and some of the streams have a lower elevation source than others and will clear up sooner as well.
