Well I got up to the Salmon River in Stanley and fished from Wed-Fri. Wednesday and Thursday the water was pretty muddy and I really struggled, though my boss did pretty well. We were both using the same gear, 8wt fly rod with 12 lb leader and 2 hand tied egg flies, the second was about 6 to 8 inches behind the first. We mainly used orange and peach colored egg flies. Friday the river cleared up quite a bit and we had an excellent morning. I finally landed my first ever steelhead on a fly and my boss landed a bunch. We could have taken our limit by 9:10 am and we had started 7 am. It was COLD, lots of picking ice out of guides. Overall we contacted about 20 or more fish, tons of smolts and whitefish and had a great time. We fished on the area just off the pull-out just over the bridge down from the hatchery. There were several people fishing on all days, and not many seemed to do as well as us. Overall a great trip!

If my memory is correct I believe there was roughly 2100 or so fish at the hatchery. +/- a handful, but I'm fairly certain it was around 2000 some. I think last year they had over 4,500 at the hatchery.

A fun area and fairly easy to fish, I hope to be back next season.
