welcome aboard apm. though I am certainly no willard expert, Most of my success happens around the south marina. I usually fish from a float tube, and the south marina happens to be closest so thats where I go. It seems the northern dike has been producing some god numbers, as for tips, I always drag a minnow on the bottom for cats, and throw hard plastics like shad raps or rapalas for anything else. I am sure there are a lot of better advice out there. best of luck to you.

I see you found the Utah board, now are you ready to do a lot of reading[Wink]. There are a couple of ways you can find out all the info you ever wanted to know about Willard. One way is the Willard Archives, here is a link to that board.

The second is the search feature above, just type in Willard and start reading. Here is a link to that search.

There is always the old fashion way[Wink], that of course is to read the most resent post and I'm sure there are many of the members that will tell you what is working for them. Will you be fishing from shore or from a boat? WH2

thanks for the replies guys, we'll be fishing from a pontoon boat. First boat we've ever had, my whole life has been shore fishing. The boat has been quite an interesting experience, we built everything but the tubes. I'll have to load some pics when i get some. Also another question. What are your thoughts on having a smaller float tube as well as the boat? Would there be a need for both? Thanks

Matters if you like to work your legs out or put them up and relax,I would say there is no need for both, just troll the productive area's posted lately and you should get some bites.
My picks,Freeway bay,North dike near the outlet, and just outside the south marina, and the south west corner.

Get yourself some rattlin rapalas in shad patterns.Blue backs have produced and black and chrome. If you look in the archives the lure selection is endless! Get your wallet out.[Image: happy.gif]

Good luck and post up how ya did.

Is this the kind of pontoon you are talking about:

Or are you talking about a boat?

no its a 25 footer

That is what I thought, more like this:

but home made right? :

Yes I could see a need to keep or have a float tube because of the trouble of launching a houseboat by yourself. If you wanted to get out for a day or afternoon by yourself it would be a lot easier to do. One of our members TubeDude is really into float tubing and tricking them out with all kinds of add on's to make it better. I'll see if I can find one of his picture and show you. WH2

I figured he was asking if he should take both out? I would keep both, though I got reed of the float tube a long time ago.But have missed it on some of the small lakes you can't use an aboard on.[fishin]

I agree a float tube would be fun on a lake like causey but a boat is better on Willard IMO.

not to steal the thread but i have also never been to willard and was hoping to make it up there sometime soon i was looking at it on google earth and there is rocks around the whole shoreline is that all accsessible by a car? is that what you consider the north and south dikes? thanks!

you should keep your float tube on your boat so you wont have to swim

I have both and enjoy both on Willard. It just depends on what I am a chasing. I have yet to hook into a Wiper in the tube but have it on good authority they are very fun from the tube.

yeah ours looks a little more redneck though...

I have a boat, a pontoon, and several tubes. I love to fish Willard from a tube. Last week I caught my first wiper from a tube. It was a terrific experience.

HA HA Smile You have to get a pick of this boat up man.

Hey Brendo, If you look at the two links that I posted on my first reply on this thread you should get all the info you will need to fish Willard for the first time, lots of great info there. As far as your question about the rock dike being
accessible by a car, yes it is for the most part, although the West side is a rough road for a car. What we consider the North and South dike is not straight but it does go from the S/W corner to the S/E corner and the N/W corner, (we also call it the light pole) to the N/E corner. The only part of the lake that does not have a rock dike is along part of the East shore around the two beach areas and a little North and South of them. I hope this answers you question. WH2

thanks wh2 if my dang truck was running i could get over the rough stuff maybe i will stick it out in my dads carSmile but ill probably just stick to the easy stuff also can you camp in the state park? or anywhere around the lake prefferably for free

It doesn't look like this does it[:/].
