Hi first time posting.
I am taking my son(4yrs) fishing for his first time. Looking for a shoreline friendly local within 2 hours of LA. My fishing experience is lake shore and creek and mostly in Nevada and Oregon. I've got lots of gear but am not sure if Piru or Castaic are good choices for shoreline fishing. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Well after a few hours pouring over previous posts and articles by members I am going to hit the lagoon at castaic. I have Ncrawlers, rubber worms, spinners, eggs, and tons of other baits including anchovies. Lets see if I can get one for my boy Bruno...

Hi there spaceley, sorry about not getting to your question earlier. But Castaic is a good choice. If you have a float tube the lagoon would be ideal place to fish although fishing from the shore is okay too. Good luck. [fishin][/#008000]

Hi ended up at a reed area north of the fishing pier at the lagoon. My friend caught a swell WMB on roboworm, about two hours in say 10:15. I had a bit of interest up to 11am but nothing much after that. Got to play and fish with my boy who had a great time. Will be pulling him out of school more and more.

Nice to get out and get some quality time with your young-in. BTW to post a picture click the little picture frame in the light blue tool bar. Click file then browse your C drive to where you have the picture stored. Pictures should be reduced to no larger than 450 pixels wide. Hope that this info help. Do not click the in-line box for that is used when uploading multiple pictures.[/#008000]

That is a Largemouth Bass. You can find some better fishing from the fishing dock at Castaic. More of the Trout and Bluegill are around there.
You can pull in loads of Bluegill on Waxworms or use a Black Rooster tail on light line. The Trout love to bite on the Power Bait. Orange and Brown colors seem to work better there.[cool]

Thanks for the tips. My 4 yr old needs to wander about. I had tried the dock when we first got there but he was not going to be still nor quiet so it was best to find a spot near the reeds where he could explore and throw rocks into the water. I have to remind myself that it is his experience i am trying to shape, catching fish is secondary to his enjoyment. When he is a bit older and his attention span is more developed then I can start actually fishing till then its playtime. If I can land a fish here and there then I can get something out of it. Next time I am going solo then I will find those trout I saw on everyones stringers!
