[fishin]Well today cromejunky and i headed up to the north fork to give it a try. we did all of our fish up river from the highway. well when we first got there while i was still tyin on (naturally) crome caught a nice brown on his 3rd cast. on a rubber leg. well we started to notice a lot of bugs so we paid attention to what they were and there was a caddis hatch out. as it started to warm up holly crap was there a hatch. then the water just started to boil. while crome still nymphed i decided to try an olive elk hair. and boy was that the right fly. there was also a bwo hatch goin on as well but we could see that they were not interseted in the bwo. as soon as i started fishin fish were hittin left and right. i was a little rusty and kept missin them. one right after another. well finally i figured my issues out. and started to land them. there was a bunch of small rainbows. most were 5 to 12 inches. it seemed like everytime that a decent fish would take my fly i either missed him or the hook got straighted out. i lost about a half dozen decent sized fish. and i miss a couple of really really nice fish. naturally i got caught with my pants down everytime. the Sad part about the whole thing is that when a good fish would take it you would get to see most of the fish. the bigger fish were holdin out a little futher close to the faster water and the little ones were held up close. while i was wadin out there there would be fish boilin all around me in front and behind. IT WAS NUTS. all in all it was an awesome day. what a way to kick off the dry fly season. all in all i proabably landed 12-20 fish i really didn't keep track today. they was so many and there just didn't have really any size to them so i didn't think that pics were really worth it. i have all the pics i need in my head. somethin that i noticed that was different than usuall. the bug for some reason everytime the sun would go behind a cloud the bugs would stop flyin and in turn the fish would stop risin. but as soon as it came back out it was on again. now the reason that i say unusuall is everyother time that i noticed it was i'm not gonnna say oppisite but every other time there is a massive hatch out like there was today. the fish and bugs don't seem to stop. unless it just get to nasty. but all it took today was just the sun to go behind the clouds and that was it.
the later it got it started to slow down a little. but then it picked back up in the evening (naturally) but there wasn't as many caddis' as there was bwo the bwo ratio to caddis was completely oppisite of what it was this morning. we managed to pick up quite a few in the evenin on caddis patterens. but they didn't give it their undevided attention like they were earlier that day.
i must say that today they were pretty acrobatic. if they weren't jumpin when you hooked them then they were proabably flyin at your face because they were so small that when you set the hook they came with the fly out of the watere and towards your face. cromey i think thought that he was stealheaded today. he really almost hit himself in the face with a really little guy. and not even the smallest. one lol.
it was a lot of fun today. even at first when all you could get to hit was the little guys it was alot of fun you would fight them for a min get them in close to you to see the size and then you would just have to drop your tip let some slack in your line and boom easy release. but then there were those ones that holly cow you were pissed when they spit the hook. both of us hooked into a could of really good fish. but like i said earier they either just spit the hook or straighted it. and they would never stay on long enough for you to adjust to them. you would be tryin to give them a little line throught your fingers and reel up the slack at the same time and it didn't matter what you did different the seemed to win on this day. which was just fine with me. i've come to terms with the fact that fish win a lot more battles then you do[pirate]. lol so just to let you all know its is more then offical now. the drys are here for a min.
cromey is goin to post and i took a couple of pics for him. but yeah i don't think that i could count high enough to count the number of fish that i missed today. so yeah there is my report.

Excellent to hear of good reports from the NF! We usually catch a lot of that size of bow just below the hwy bridge but I know that upper stretch holds a lot of bows. Great start to your dry fly season-Nice work!![cool]

ducttaped sent me the pictures from his cell phone to post but they came as little tiny thumbnail photos and when i blow them up they are so pixelated you cant even tell what your looking at. but anyways ill post the thumbnails so you can kinda see them they are all me ductaped didnt get into anything besides 8 inch rainbows as well as i and we didnt really see anyreason to take pictures of them but we should have got a couple of him so you guys could have seen his mug.i did happen to catch 2 nice browns nymphing. one nice bow and one bow that was barely able to call himself a fish he was more like a minnow. all the bows were taken with olive caddis patterns. man was it fun to get some dry fly fishing done between ducttaped and i i think we caught 30 rainbows between the 2 of us

I hit up there about 6:30 to dark this evening, and WOW! It was a hoot. Thanks for the heads up on the olive caddis. They loved them and whenever the snow storms stopped, the bugs came out like crazy. It was great fun. Hope to get right back up there quick. [cool]

Like you said before, it was a bunch of those fiesty rainbows. [Smile] Most were about 12-16", but I did land one brown that was probably around 20". There were some larger fish rising on a regular basis out in the middle of the river, but I was having too much fun, and my waders have a hole in the waist area, so I didn't brave the deeper water.

I'll have to head out one of these days you guys are going so I can learn the right technique to nymphing, I sure haven't figured out how to do it right yet! [laugh]

That sounds like a good idea. hopefully though we wont have to nymph for a couple of months. hopefully spring is here for now. but yeah we will have to meet up and go and fish sometime. cromejunky just called me and he is headed up there right now. so yeah we will have maybe go up monday or tuesday.
