Hey all,
I am new to the area. Does anyone have any tips on what works best for Bountiful Pond? Should I need to take my tube or is it better off the shore I know its not that big of a place.

[#0000ff]Right now the main targets in BP are planted trout. A plain old piece of worm, a few feet under a bobber, will probably catch as many as anything. But, they also slurp salmon eggs and "bottle baits"...either under a bobber or floated up off the bottom.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]You can also get a few by throwing spinners and even with flies...flyrod or bubble.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]As the water warms up, DWR plants catfish and you can get them all around the lake...on worms, minnows, carp meat or hot dogs.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Some white bass and largemouths in there, but not many are taken each year. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]When the lake gets crowded, having a tube lets you fish in a little more solitude and to reach spots not accessible to bank tanglers. There are a couple of deeper spots toward the little island to the west of the launch ramp. Drifting bait around the less hammered spots in the lake, from your tube, can often help you get a lot more fish...without having to put up with the fish hogs, trashers and lowlifes.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Good luck. And remember, wakeless speed in your tube.[/#0000ff]

[Image: happy.gif]Took the kids to Bountiful pond this evening around 5 pm. I had one hook up with a largemouth, the bite was very light. I got it to the surface before it through the hook. Then in the same spot I caught a nice brown trout. I was using a 3 inch chartreuse with flash plastic jig. I was just casting it out and bouncing it off the bottom near the fishing dock on the south end.[cool] We were there for 1 1/2 hours before we got blown off the lake by the storm. We were fishing from shore. All in all a nice evening on the water.[fishin]

Looks more like a brook trout to me kinda hard to tell but caught some that looked like that at glassmans pond last year..

I think that may be a brooke trout.

When I first pulled it out I thought it may have been a brookie but it was very dark. So I settled for a possible brown. Either way it was still a nice fish. A little surprised when I pulled it out. Thought the only trout in there was rainbows.

Thanks for the good info and the fast response I am going to tackle the pond friday.

That's no brown brother, it is a hog hatchery broodstock brookie. Not too many people have ever caught a hog brookie like that accidentally so revel in it for a while.[Image: happy.gif]

Next time you go, try a drop shot rig with a night crawler. I have gotten bass, catfish, and trout doing that in that pond.

I was thinking it is probably a splake, I know they planted a bunch a few years ago.

Thanks Nate
I will try that out.

If you want to catch some fish out of that pond, give me a call. I've fished it ever since I was a kid, way back before they made all of the "improvements" and attracted the whole world to my secret place.
