My wife recently dropped a hint that she wants to try fishing. the DWR website has been a great help but I want to hear from the people out there fishing. If we have nothing and just want an easy leisurely fishing day where is the best place around town? We live in Clinton and I know there is the Clinton City Pond and Steed's Pond (seems awfully crowded every time I drive by). What would you suggest for beginners (I fished with my dad when I was young - last time was more than 10 years ago but I remember the basics).
Thanks, Travis!

I'm sort of a newbie myself.
For community ponds, I try either early morning (before 8) or evening (after 8), and they're not too crowded. Also the best time for catfish, which is my main reason for those times (I don't like trout)
Willard Bay is only half an hour drive (to the North marina) from the Clearfield area. I fish from shore at North boat ramp & Pelican Beach area, but of course if you have a boat that's even better.

If you are looking for some place close. Farmington Pond or Holmes Creek are good. If you do not mind a short drive East Canyon has always been good to me. That is where I take my grandson. He caught his first fish there..

The one thing you'll know pretty soon from all that you will learn here his that perceptions of basics are another door to learning different techniques and applying them effectively. Different fish have different habits and there is a learning curve for all of them. Be careful, because there is a big difference between being an armchair angler, as opposed to a serious fisherman with the right knowledge, tackle, and technique; and you might be assimilated by legions of ofishianados.[unimpressed]... must catch the fishy... the fishy is our friend. The fishy is your friend, the fishy is your goal, and the fishy is your now sole source of entertainment.[crazy] Let us know where you're going and what you're after and you'll, likely, be bombarded with knowledge from the great fishermen here on BFT. [laugh] Resistance is futile![:p]

I would stick with the local ponds. Its pretty easy to catch fish, you dont have to worry about being a professional. Just be able to cast 20 feet. Also if your skunked at the Clinton pond than you can relocate to the Roy pond 3 minutes away. And dont worry about how crowded it is, most people are pretty respectful and will make room, plus feel free to ask people questions about where your at, get tips about whats working. Good Luck.

I would love to catch some bass because my coworker said they are pretty tasty and easy to prepare. He also said crappie taste great as well. But I figure we will mostly get rainbow trout as they are the most stocked and most common at these ponds. What is the best way to catch trout and bass in these ponds? (bait, bobber or sinkers, etc.)
Thanks in advance!

As far as Trout go, you can use power bait, worms, and spinners. Bass are a little more challenging, worms have been very successful for me, usually on a bobber. Also catfish are all over also and they will be more than happy to take a worm off the bottom if bass are not hitting. If your heart is set on bass/crappie than willard bay is what i would suggest. Lot of reports of people catching wipers(White bass/Striper) up at Willard right now, i am heading up there after work today in hopes of landing a few. Crappie are a little easier to catch at willard, you can use a bobber and a tube. Hope this helps.
PS, these are just some things that have worked for me in the past, technique has lots to do with it and other people can also offer really good tips too.
