So I will be trying Mantua for the first time this coming thursday. I have never fished it before. I was wondering if any of you guys know of any good spots from the shore that I could try. I know that the weather may not be the best but I have some precious free time this thursday that I really wont get for quite some time.

Best spot is straight across from the boat ramp it has a big tree on the point. But I dont know how to get there from the shore. Use plastic worms in purple or pumkinseed texas rigged. Also use a rattletrap in blue and chrome around the rocks and you usually can catch a few. good luck and let us know how it goes.

the only spot that i have fished is on the far side of the lake, just to the north of the point. you can walk around from the south side on a closed road so not bad walkin. never fished it this earlly but usually to good on panfish later in summer.[fishin]

If open, drive around the South side of the lake until it dead ends. You can access the East side of the lake from there. Don't forget to try the pond on the point.

I've always had decent luck with largemouth from shore just north of the dock right there on top of the dike. Floating crankbait in a baby bass pattern or crawdad pattern worked well for me in the past. Not sure with water temps being fairly cold still if the bass will be biting. Best of luck, tho.

Water is still fairly cold. I would still use small baits and lures tipped with spikes, small garden worms. or Meal worms. Just hang them under a bobber or slip bobber and watch it close. They may still be hitting fairly light. If you don't want to walk all the way around to the east side point, try off the dike on the west side. Just walk up and down till you find where they are holding.

[#0000ff]It is likely to be too cold for most of the warm water fishies, but you should be able to catch something from along the west dike shoreline. Try fishing with a bobber and a worm or a bubble and fly for the plentiful rainbows. Toss out a small jig with a piece of worm for bluegills or perch...if they are in close enough. Usually another month or so before it starts getting good for them.[/#0000ff]

Yeah, I had no idea there was a pond there, and that there was foot access to the entire reservoir. Thanks once again Tube Dude. I think I need to go investigate that little pond section.
