I am wondering about the correlation of water temps and how fish will respond. Can anyone tell me what the optimal temp would be for wipers or carp at willard. and what are good tactics for carp? I've heard all sorts of things from corn flakes to white bread and worms.I will be fishing from shore. Any help is appreciated.

[cool][#0000ff]Fish are cold blooded critters so water temperature plays a big role in how active they are. Different species have different optimum temperatures. Walleyes like cooler water...up to about 65 to 70 maximum. Wipers are more active in warmer water. They like it from 65 to about 75, but theywill stay active clear past the 80 degree temps of late summer in Willard. And, they wlll bite all year, even under the ice. But they are slower when it is much below 60.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Carp are also warm water fish, and they are just getting more active. They will be spawning when the water warms up to about 65 and are cruising close to shore right now. It is a good time to fish for them because they are hungry and active. Plain old worms will work fine...either soaked on the bottom or under a bobber. You might also get wipers, cats or crappies. No need for fancy concoctions. If you want to use dough baits, just wad up some soft white bread, or make a thick dough from flour and water. You can add some licorice or strawberry scent if you want extra added attraction. Some guys like to crush up wheaties or corn flakes, mix it with a little milk for a stiff dough and add some of the strawberry flavor.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Wipers are getting more active now too. Try casting shad imitating lures or fishing a white jig about 3 or 4 feet under a bobber. But, if you have some minnows or good crawlers the wipers will hit baits too.[/#0000ff]
