I was at sco yesterday with three others. We fished for some 6 hours and not the best success. We were using egg sacks with minimal success. Lots of hits but few hoodups so we figured we had small fish which is what was happening. We caught a half dozen cutts but most of the bows were last year's planters so my question is were are the big bows that were there last iceoff. Oh by the way, just as I was leaving I had a hit and man it was a bow in the 6 pound range--23 inches. Of course I was happy as can be with that one but was the only one over 15 inches.

Thanks for posting. There are lots of small fish and few large fish due to the horrible 8 fish limit of previous years, but i wouldn't complain too much after landing what is arguably the biggest bow posted on this site from Scofield in years (from what i remember). [:p]

Sorry for not answering last evening but had to leave but the ice should be gone in a couple or three days. Can't lauch boat yet since lots of ice in Madson Bay as of Tue eve but should be all gone end of this week if not sooner.
Even though I did catch one nice fish but I have still got to complain since the 16 to 20 inch rainbows are not there for some reason and I do not believe it is because of the 8 fish limit although that did contribute. I fisherman told me that last summer he had a friend fishing on Lower Fish Creek at the time the opened the gates to lower the lake and he said that alot of big were floating down the river.

I would have a hard time believing that any substantial amount of big rainbows were flushed down lower fish creek, enough to affect the overall amount of big fish in Scofield.
I place more emphasis on the 8 fish limit, the lower water levels, and the chub problem. The new slot is great for tigers and cutts but it can only serve to reduce the chance of catching big bows as fishermen are going to keep more bows.

Wondering if anyone knows what the snow level is at above Fish creek? There is a road that allows you to drop in on Fish creek from above. Wanting to plan a trip, but don't know how much snow is still up there.
Thanks in advance.

Didn't know that. Thanks for the info. Can I ask why it is closed until the 2nd week of July?
Thanks again for the info.

it's been that way for about 20 years now.. to protect the cutt's comeing up from scofield to spown..

I think he meant Lower Fish Creek. As far as I know its open. I dont know how much snow is still on that road but I bet its pretty muddy. I would give it a week or so.

If you are talking about Lower Fish Creek, when I drove to Price and back today (from UT county) the snow was all gone around there and looks dry. That was just a view from the highway. That final drop down into the canyon may be a different story. If I didn't have other fishing plans this weekend, I would try it.

Lower fish creek is open year arround and has been for years, upper fish creek and all other scofield tributaries are closed until july to protect the cut throat spawn. It will probably be a couple weeks until you can drop into the river through the private ground ldue to drifted areas and they generally don't open the locked gates until arround the end of may. (to protect the roads from being tore up from 4 wheel drive activity to early.) Those are the ranchers access roads. The fishing may not be great above the confluence with white river due to lower fish creek being pretty much shut off all winter (see dwr site) to refill the lake after the dam reconstruction last couple of years. Hope that helps
