[font "Comic Sans MS"][size 3][#002850]I decided to take my first serious trip of the year to Willard Thursday evening. Dan (a co-worker) came with me to see what all the hoopla is about the wiper thing. For the first couple of hours, we thought we might be going to get skunked. With four lines out (two planer boards and two straight back) we were offering a pretty decent menu. But just couldn't find them in the middle, S-W corner, or around the island. Just around sun-down we found them up just north of the pig farm in Freeway Bay. They were taking curly tail grubs. We were trolling about 1.8 - 2.2 mph GPS. The water temps were about 56 up in the Freeway Bay but out south they were 59-60.
Every one we boated weighed just over 3.5 lbs and were 19-20 inches long. They were very healthy and still remembered how to put on a fight for a new guy. Dan caught his first wipers ever and I think he is hooked!
While out on the water we ran into Fish-N-Coach, Jig_Jrk, and Bait_Caster. They all caught fish too once they found where they were.
Wish I had more time to fish these days. It sure was great getting back out on the water again.
