My son wanted to go and said he would drive and take his boat.....can't pass up that deal[
]
Launched at 7:30am and ran to Salratus. We didn't have to leave the area all day. Into fish (eyes) right off the bat.
Caught one on a crank and the rest came on bouncers.
After going through 50 crawlers we ended up boating 24 eyes 16 to 22/12 inches with the majority being 18 to 20 inches. Kept 9 for a good fish fry for the family.
We did miss alot of hits as they were really short biting. Don't have an exscuss other than too quick on the hook set[crazy]
Nice day until the wind really picked up about 2:00pm.
Water temps at launch were 48 and 52 when we left.
Fod were you fishing the inlet with a couple of dogs? I thougth it might have been you. How did you do?
Long drive for 7 hours fishing... but worth it with the quality and quantity[
]
Will be going back up on Wed. and staying 4 or 5 days for the Esox tourney. Looking forward to it.
Pics will follow as soon as the wife loads em[:p]

Yep it was me. I didnt catch any in my usual spots. I saw where you were. Sounds like they moved from where they were yesterday. It also looked like you were in the spot/area I would have been too if I were on a boat. The water color yesterday was more stained without the defined line. I think the walleye are going to be fun for the tournament. It is getting to be that time.
Should have yelled out at me crankem. I would have liked to know you were catching fish. But I am sure you diddnt want all the other guys around you knowing how you were doing. I will see you out there next week I am sure. Sucks I wont be fishing with all you good fishermen in the tourny. Hopefully I still make it out for a couple hours on Sat.

Looks like an awesome trip! Looking forward to seeing the pics. I'm about going through the DT's from lack of walleye!

We were the ones that launched after you. I guess we should have followed you into salteraus. We ended up catching two browns over at the south side of the mouth to rabbit gulch. We didn't get a bite on the crawler harness, both fish came on cranks.

FOD:
I was not sure it was you or I wouild have yelled howdy at you. Yeah the fish were out in deeper water. All our fish came in 16 to 30 foot depths.
They were scatterd in the mud line.
We didn't pick up a fish that was milking. I think the spawn is winding down.
Very aggersive fish in the AM...they were just pounding the baits. The later it got the more subbtle the bite.
By nexted weekend I'm betting the majority of the fish will have dispersed out into the main lake. We'll see.
It's great to see the lake at such full pool. All my normal eye structure is under water (not a bad thing)[
]
Never fished Starvation this early in the year...so it's going to be a learning experiance!
Thanks for the heads up on where to start fishing today. Been reading your posts...it reallly paid off...I owe you one[
]
We will be camped on the upper camp ground. Your more than welcome to stop by and chat...have toddy, dinner or what ever. (canines are welcome).
Thurday and Friday I'll be in the boat by myself pre fishing. I have got room in the boat if you would like to join me.

That sounds like an offer I cant refuse. Thurs and Fri fishing would be great!! I will be out there. I am not sure what the upper campground is though.
I am convinced that most the fish are done spawning. The male I caught the other day was done also.
These next few weeks are what I have been waiting for since last May. Very hot action early in the morning just like you said. Thanks for the report. I am all excited now.
BTW I am glad I helped send you in that direction but you dont owe me anything. Showing me the ropes on bouncing would be a great thing to learn though. I have done some lindy rigging and a little bouncing but I am not that good at it and I have not got the confidence to fish with them for very long. I have caught all my walleye on jigs this year. I think I have got that one down. If I am in your boat and your fishing bouncers I guess that I will have to do it, and learn something from ya.

The upper campground is where you go into the state park. As soon as you go through the gate take a right. I have a Springdale 5th. wheel, white GMC truck and a toupe colored Crestliner boat.
I'll PM you my cell number.
Put in an order for a little less wind for the weekend OK[
]
I like a good walleye chop but I was getting darned wet yesterday.
Now I remember why I take my boat instead of my sons "SHOWER" boat minus the soap and towels[laugh]

Thought I might see your rig yesterday as the wife and I dropped off the 5th wheel there on the way back from our turkey hunt, it will spend most of the summer there. I looked for your rig, I assumed you still have your old plate # Crankem but not sure. Not sure what your son's truck looks like. Looked like a nice day on the water, we got there about noon I guess. I'd thought about comming back down & fishing the tourney next weekend but with Mother's Day and all I guess I'll bag it. Looks like you guys had a good day, I had heard they had been doing pretty good on the eyes from a boat for the past week or so. [fishin]

You do realize you need to leave some fish in there for the tourney right??
Haha looks like a good day!

We did leave some. 15 of them to be exact, plus the ones we missed.
That should be plenty right [
]
At least you guys are finally holding a tourney on a lake that actually have eyes in it [cool]
I'll bet you will get to weigh (measure) some walleyes on this one.
Looking forward to seeing you guys. We had them figured out yesterday. Just have to wait and see what sat. brings.

I know saturday is going to bring alot of competition for sure. The big guys are all coming out on this one. Alot of smack has been talked and the gloves have come off.
And yes the lake with fish in it will help. Measuring more than one fish will be nice too.
