Well I fished along the ice today (Sunday) at the Berry so I might as well have been ice fishing how little open water there was. Really nice day to be out on the water though, but boy did my feet get hold. Caught 10 fish at the berry, one of the two rainbows I caught was around 19 inches and 3 pounds, and I got a cutt at the 22 inch mark but really fat. I used a number of tube and other jigs tipped with carp minnows. Well I used lots of other stuff but the various jigs are what worked. I fished the ladders which had the largest open water that I could find. Not much open water yet, but maybe after this next storm with wind, it should break up a little. I saw a lot of people fishing the inlet at the ladders and didn’t see anyone catching anything. At one time there were about 8 people on tubes or toons right in front of the river inlet at the ladders. Got a little crowded for a bit, but all is well.

I also fished the weber yesterday (Saturday) and boy was that not a good idea. I knew it was going to rain and it sure did. I saw the weather report that Sunday was supposed to be nice but I just couldn’t wait to get out and I paid for it by being wet all morning. Funny thing about the fishing was that I caught two carp and only one brown trout. The brown was small so not worth posting, but I attached one of the carp. I went to the weber two weeks ago and caught about 8 fish (all browns except one cutt). Had two really nice browns (Attached a picture of one of them). The weber was really high yesterday and hard to fish. Sure is a lot different from two weeks ago.

That was my first time float tubing the berry at ice off and it was fun. The fish were all really healthy and none of them were very skinny. Must be eating well.

I was on the weber saturday with a friend as well. Tough fishing with flies so switched to jigs. We had to wade in up to our waist almost to get to where the fish were holding. After the the hook up, the fun started, trying to wade through the high water and slippery rocks made for some close calls getting wet.

One brown took me about 100 yards down stream......but what a hog, 20"s plus.

Thanks for the barry report, might try to get up there this week.

Is there any open water by the main marina boat ramp? Any chance I would be able to get my boat in there this coming Friday? I saw pictures from a posting last week that looked like 30+ feet of open water from the bank, but that might have only been at the ladders.

Do you have any guesses as to how long until the berry is ready for boats?

Thanks a bunch,
Curtis

I didn't make it to the Marina but I would bet that there won't be enough open water to take the boat out this Friday. I am no ice off expert so I don't know about how long it will take, maybe the following weekend or possibly before if the wind picks up or if there are some really warm days.

The open water you mention is probably from the ladders.
