We launched at Bullfrog on Wednesday afternoon (4/29), set-up camp in Forgotten Canyon, and departed on Sunday morning (5/3). All-in-all, the weather was fantastic. We had some storms with wind come through on Saturday, which cooled the air/water temperature. We fished the canyons from Crystal Springs all the way up to Seven Mile. Morning water temps were typically around 58-59F, but warmed to the mid-60s by afternoon.

Fishing was fantastic for bass. We caught bass on classic structure using jigs and Senkos including: Hula grubs in black/silver flake and green/black flake and Senkos in green/black flake. Some bass were on already on nests, but most of the fish we caught/kept were pre-spawn. Fishing was best by afternoon, when the water temps warmed into the low 60s. Much better than two years ago, a lot of the bass were well over a pound and we even caught a few in the 2-3 lb range.

We found crappie and bluegills hovering around old vegetation in the backs of each of the canyons we fished. We did best for crappies using a chartreuse 2-inch Berkley Power grub, hanging about 2-4 ft under a bobber. The crappies we caught/kept were still prespawn, but very aggressive. Once again fishing was best in the afternoons after the water warmed. The crappies were slabs, ranging from 10-13 inches.

Striper fishing was tough in that section of the lake. We made some attempts at trolling and jigging, with little success. Some of the group boated all the way up to the lower end of Good Hope Bay and found healthy stripers while trolling crankbaits in firetiger colors.

Hope it helps, Ryno

What kind of boat were you in? We boated back to the San Juan on Thursday and came back to bullfrog on Sunday morning. Fishing was awsome in the San Jaun as well. Plenty of small mouth and a few large. Quite a few crappie on a three inch salt stick fished weightless and wacky. All in all a great trip.
Thanks for the report. I will be headed up this weekend and fishing in that general area. Last year was my first time and I had a blast. It's good to hear the fishing is just as good if not better this year.

A green Tracker Targa with a Merc 125. Was that you I talked to parked behind me with the Crestliner at the top of the Bullfrog ramp on Sunday morn? If so, small world! Ryno

That was us! You are right about it being a small world. Guess we should have chatted a little longer. It was nice to meet you and swap stories. It is always nice to run into people at the ramp that are willing to talk ya.
You were in Forgotten Canyon? We were there Saturday until today (Thursday)!!! Where were you? We had the 59' Houseboat!!! Either I or my brother (kochanut) will post our report and pictures tomorrow (too tired today).

In the middle fork of the canyon, otherwise the South Fork (?). We were almost to the back on the right hand side with 5 boats. Did you guys have the houseboat with about 3-4 fishing boats parked next to the big cabin cruiser? How'd the fishing go for you guys?

Yep that was us!!! What a small world (big lake)!!! Fishing was excellent for us. Look for either kochanut's post or I will do one up.
