I finally got to go try and catch one of the fabled steelhead last week on the last day of the season. We floated a section just outside of Challis. The water was high and ripping along but we managed to have a great time anyway. The weather was nice and the scenery incredible. And the steelhead were considerate enough not to bother us all day! My buddy assured me they were there and his theory was confirmed by some locals who mentioned large numbers still entering the hatchery, but they had a serious case of lock jaw. In spite of our lack of success, I was immediately impressed with the river and the natural beauty of the surrounding countryside and I vowed to return next season.

for best results i think you needed to hit it about two to four weeks ago, just my thought

I wish they would have extended it this year I think there are still alot of fish in the streams.

Your right though its a beutiful river. But its even prettier when you pull one of those hogs out. keep after it and it will happen some day.

i agree that we should have made going earlier a priority but schedules just would not allow it. Oh well, we will get after 'em next year.
