Figured I should post this report since I couldn't find any recent posts on Utah Lake in the last few days...

Dad and I launched the 'toons at the Lindon boat harbor and were out to find whatever was biting. Two seconds into the water we realized our batteries for the trolling motor and fish finder are five years old...no charge. But we rowed out into the chop anyway.

We set up about 20-100ft off the weed line where the American Fork Creek enters the lake and cast Blue Fox spinners for about 3 hours. We tried dragging plastic worms, suspending cranks, tubes, lipless cranks, but the spinner caught all the fish. The first hour and a half were relatively slow: 1 walleye 22" 5lbs 1oz, and 3 white bass 8-10".

The last hour and a half picked up and we managed another 21 white bass, all 8-10", and another walleye 16". Every fish was caught on a number 2 or 3 Blue Fox. Gold seemed to work best but we caught a few on silver using a moderately fast retrieve.

We never really found large schools of fish. We would drift around a bit, set anchor, and cast around us until we stopped getting hits. Then, drift again and continue casting. The fish were sporadically positioned anywhere from right on the weed line to maybe 150ft out. Water depth was 4-6ft. Water was very stained, lots of runoff coming in. Didn't get a water temp because we had no fish finder power.

There were a half a dozen guys who had waded in up to their chests and were fishing. We didn't see any of them catch a fish, but they were in the reeds. All in all, a great night and great fishing.
Nice job on the fishing and great report. I have a number of those lures in orange, blue, silver and red but I think the last time they saw the water was in AK fishing for Grayling. (They worked really well). Never thought about using them at UT lake but appreciate the info. I'll definitely bring them next time.
I was out in the same area last Sunday and could not buy a bite. Mostly was fishing with chub minnows & worms & sardines, plus some spinner baits and senkos thrown into the weeds to try and attract a bass. Moved all over the place from West of AF Harbor to down to the bubble up. In the weeds and quite a ways out. Nothing. I think it may have been the first time I haven't caught a fish out of UT Lake in that area. The smell of the skunk was strong that day.

[#008000]Great report ! Nice looking walleye too. [/#008000]

[#008000]Some times spinners are just the right answer. It's nice to see someone else using them with success there. Were you casting them plain or did you sweeten them up with a piece of crawler ?[/#008000]

[cool][#0000ff]Good report. You need to check your batteries with a volt meter before you go out.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Also, the creek that comes in by the waste transfer station is BATTLE CREEK...not American Fork Creek. That one comes in just west of American Fork Boat Harbor.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Was the power plant operating while you were there? Most guys have found that when the power plant is operating it creates a lot of vibration in the area that seems to turn the fish off. I have experienced that a couple of times myself...catching fish until the plant started sending up steam and then everything shuts down. Or, coming down when the plant was already running and having very poor action.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Mark Cook, the Lindon Harbor operator told me that since the power plant started operating he has not seen any fish upstream in the creek. He used to be able to catch some nice browns in it.[/#0000ff]

Nice report, Thanks for the new idea for the spinner I always bait fish in the lake and only catch Cats.

You know TD, as soon as I clicked "post" I realized that the creek wasn't Am Fork Creek, and I didn't know which one it was. Thanks for the correction.

As for our hooks, we just used plain spinners all night long. I thought about taking a chunk out of one of the white bass and tipping the hook, but we were catching fish just fine without it that I decided not to bother.

I use the Blue Fox spinners 2/3/4 as a go to lure everywhere I go to look for active fish. In fact, I caught a 32" tiger muskie out of Pineview last fall with the exact same spinner and 4lb test I was using last night.
last time i was there in battle crick i caught a 20 inch brown it was skinny but long

[cool][#0000ff]That really is a snaky brown. I caught a walleye down there that was pretty thin too. See attached pic.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I have caught quite a few browns across the upper part of Utah Lake...especially through the ice and right after ice out I think a lot of them come down the tributaries during the winter and then forage for awhile before going back upstream. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]How long ago did you catch that brown? Was it after the power plant went in? [/#0000ff]
