Figured I should post this report since I couldn't find any recent posts on Utah Lake in the last few days...
Dad and I launched the 'toons at the Lindon boat harbor and were out to find whatever was biting. Two seconds into the water we realized our batteries for the trolling motor and fish finder are five years old...no charge. But we rowed out into the chop anyway.
We set up about 20-100ft off the weed line where the American Fork Creek enters the lake and cast Blue Fox spinners for about 3 hours. We tried dragging plastic worms, suspending cranks, tubes, lipless cranks, but the spinner caught all the fish. The first hour and a half were relatively slow: 1 walleye 22" 5lbs 1oz, and 3 white bass 8-10".
The last hour and a half picked up and we managed another 21 white bass, all 8-10", and another walleye 16". Every fish was caught on a number 2 or 3 Blue Fox. Gold seemed to work best but we caught a few on silver using a moderately fast retrieve.
We never really found large schools of fish. We would drift around a bit, set anchor, and cast around us until we stopped getting hits. Then, drift again and continue casting. The fish were sporadically positioned anywhere from right on the weed line to maybe 150ft out. Water depth was 4-6ft. Water was very stained, lots of runoff coming in. Didn't get a water temp because we had no fish finder power.
There were a half a dozen guys who had waded in up to their chests and were fishing. We didn't see any of them catch a fish, but they were in the reeds. All in all, a great night and great fishing.
