Had a few open hours which doesn't happen too often so I headed west to wet a line. Debated Grantsville or Settlement and chose the later because it's a bit closer to home and I would have a bit more time to fish.

First hour nothing, threw powerbait on my first pole and a variety of spinners on the second. Had a couple of follows, but nothing bit. Changed over to a fly and my fortunes changed. First two casts I had solid hits, and over the next two hours I was pretty consistently into the fish. No pictures, nor would I consider posting them if I had them - I was catching, but nothing was over 6" in length and most weren't much over 3"-4" [blush] . Everyone one of the little guys would rise up out of the rocks and hit the fly within 20 feet of the shore.

I wasn't the only one having success on the small fry, there were some mergansers giving them all kinds of problems.

I don't know if the DWR is planting them that small in the reservoir or if they're naturally reproducing in there. I'm not even sure if they've planted the reservoir yet.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to finding a day with more than a couple of hours free. I'd like to get away to some water a bit farther from home.

Good to get out and fish no matter what isn't it?

I checked the stocking report, I saw nothing on settelment for this year, no stocking yet. Last year the only fish planted under 9" were tiger trout at 4". so this is good news. Unless they were tigers it means we have natural reproduction of bows in Settlement.
