Fished the view for a few hours yesterday. The water is suprisingly cool still, not at all like last year. Several others were out trying to get crappie from the shore and in boats, but the crappie have not yet started to spawn and fishing was very poor. One guy who caught a carp on his crappie jig said there were no crappie to be seen yet. Best to wait for the water to warm some more as the spawn is delayed. I had one nice musky follow my lure up to the end of my rod-tip then shoot off when it realized I was there. Musky fishing should also improve when the water warms and the crappie start to bed down any day now with increasing temperatures.
If you want to catch alot of crappie right now, it is a different story at Willard where the crappie spawn is definetely on and many fish are being caught.

The crappie are also on in Utah Lake. I never knew there were so many crappie in there. Not the size I have been getting at Willard, but many fish, almost one right after another once you found a school, and there was a school on most every sparce clump of weeds I fished.
Where you might ask?
Same at outlet/power house, AF Harbor, Lindon, That area just south of there, UT state park harbor (best results) and Lincoln beach. I didn't hit the knolls, but I'll bet it is on too.
I look forward to Pineview heating up, last year was good, this year might be better. My goal is to find them in East Canyon this year.

I heard some good reports of folks catching some nice crappie at east canyon last year, so it will be interesting to see how it goes this year. I would bet the crappie at pineview are staging in the deeper water and could still be caught by vertical jigging in 30 to 40 ft of water You just have to find a good school, then drop a jig down on top of them, that is how we did it last year for these in the attachment.

That makes alot of sense, I bet that's where the musky are too.

Saturday night I went to PView 2 hours before dark and caught nothing probing in the brush, so I went out into the deepest part of the bay I was in and drifted back and forth in 20-30' deptjh. also nothing...
At Willard on Saturday night, tho.. I was the only guy in a big line of guys lined up on the beach in the N marina that DIDN'T catch several crappies in a couple of hours...
Am I the only person who has NEVER caught one fish in UL?
