I just got back from the little get together. I would have to say this was a very good weekend. You could not have asked for better weather. I got to meet chrome_junky, ductaped4runner, and steelienut. That was the extent of people that showed up. I was hoping to meet a few more people, but oh well, maybe next time.

I showed up on Friday afternoon as I waited for the new toon to show up before I left. It was nice to have it and caught a few fish with it also. Here are a few pics of the campground and surrounding area from when I got there. The deer were every where.

Pic of the Bear River from camp. Caught 2 Rainbow here on Friday evening that were around 14".

Saturday morning I fished Onieda with the new toon. I headed up the reservoir against the wind for a ways. I finally got tired and turned around and trolled along the damn. I caught my first fish on the new toon. It was a 14" Rainbow on a 4" Salmon Leech streamer.[inline firstfish.jpg]
I then rowed up the reservoir again since the wind calmed down a bit. I rowed up to the campground and took a break. Tough little row against the wind. Trolled the whole way and nothing. While I was taking a break the wind stopped. Picture perfect day.

I then headed back towards the dock at the damn. Well, then wind thought otherwise as it now started blowing the other direction. It was a good little workout. I loaded up and headed back to have some lunch and see who else was gonna show up. No one did, so it was time to go fish. Chrome_junky, ductaped4runner and I loaded up and headed for Lamont Reservoir. Gorgeous little lake. The water is so blue and clear. Reminds me of the glacier lakes in Alaska.

Fishing was slow at first. We cruised around and tried a few different things. Nothing. Then Steelienut showed up so we headed over to shore and bs'd a bit. It cooled down a bit and we headed out again. Chrome_junky nailed a LMB. I have never fished for bass so Chrome_junky gave me a few quick instructions and the fight was on. I caught my first LMB on Lamont on the new toon. All together we landed around 15 LMB in the 8-12" range and a Perch in the last hour till dark. It was a blast. Also had what we think was a Tiger Muskie jump about 10' from my toon that made my heart stop for a sec. Never heard something so big jump in the water so close before.[shocked] We headed back to camp and ate dinner. Steelienut and his wife and kid showed up.

Sunday morning Steelienut, Chrome_junky and I headed out on the river for a little fishing. I caught a few Rainbows and Chrome_junky caught a SMB I believe. Nothing to big. Chrome_junky, ductaped4runner and Steelienut took off around noon and headed home. I ate lunch and went for a drive. Seen quite a few more deer.

I ended up at Onieda Res again and decided to do some bank fishing. It was about 1 hour before dark. I finally hooked a fish and wow, my first SMB I have ever caught.
[inline firstSMB.jpg]
This turned out to be the perfect weekend. Any way, back to fishing before it gets to dark and bam, Fish On!
I reeled it in and what a little fighter. I reached down to pick it up and whoa! This looks a little different. My first Walleye!
[inline firstwalleye.jpg]
Back to fishing as this is just plain fun. 10 mins later, Bam! This fish is pulling hard on my Ultra light. Real good fighter. I am thinking this is a carp while I am fighting it since I can not seem to get him to the shore real easy and there had been carp jumping every where. I finally get him to shore and wow, nice 14" SMB.

I called it a night and headed back to eat some fish for dinner.

Monday we packed up and headed over to Twin Lakes. Pretty much had the place to myself and headed out to fish it. I had not fish Twin Lakes since I was about 15 years old. I took the toon out and rowed around a bit looking for fish. The water was so clear you could see down 15' to the bottom.
[inline twinlakes1.jpg]
I rowed around about 30 mins trolling and wouldn't you know, the wind starts blowing. I fight the wind a bit but finally give up. I do not have an anchor on the toon yet. I head to shore and fished the shore for a bit. Nothing. Completely dead. Never even seen a fish jump. We packed it up and headed home.

Overall I had a great time. I ended up catching 3 species that I had never caught before on this trip. I learned to fish for other species besides trout. Thanks Chrome_junky. I finally lost the grub that Chrome_junky set me up with on Lamont. I caught over 15 fish on that grub until I lost it in a tree at Twin Lakes. I met new people to fish with and had a great time. I ended catching LMB, SMB, Rainbow, Perch, and a Walleye. Not bad for a weekend. I hope there is another get together some time as not only did I learn something new, I met new people and had a great time doing it with perfect weather.

Great report prvrt. I was really pretty bummed I couldn't make it down there. Oh well, that's life. Next time I'll have to stack the potential dates in my favor by not putting in the ones on weekends like mothers day[blush]. Glad to hear the bass are hitting some down there. That second one looked like a fat little guy. Hope to hook up and fish w/ you guys in the future.

No big deal on the grubs. That one you gave me landed SMB, LMB, Perch and the Walleye. I will be better prepared for Bass next time now that I have a slight clue of what to do. It was fun fishing those LMB with ya. We will have to hit Ririe some time together for some smallies.

Great pics & report. I am glad you guys got together. I voted for the later date because I had this weekend circled for the smallmouth trip for a long time and I was afraid if I changed my plans I wouldn't be able to give it a try. Glad to see that you guys got into the bass.

give me a heads up for when you plan to go to Gem Lake. I've been planning on heading out there recently but been putting it off d/t cold weather on days I've been off work. I know of one spot there that usually produces well, I'm willing to share if you're willing to reciprocate[Wink]

Sounds like a fun time. I was planning on coming but woke up Saturday feeling like crap. Next time I'll be there.

I am planning on heading down to McTucker Ponds this weekend if the weather coperates. I have a live fish transport license I need to go pick up Friday. I plan on fishing for some LMB and Bluegill. I need to figure out which pond has what fish tho. I need to stop in Pocatello some place and pick up some grubs also.

just go to walmart and the khalins three inch grubs they are about half the price as the gary yamamotos and work just as good but both produce fish very well for me. i try to stay more earthy colors like browns (cinnamon, pumpkin, any color of flake works good) and greens (watermelon, motor oil, again any flake) i also like running a 3 inch crawbug on a standup jighead for smallies and creeping and bouncing them across the bottom i tend to hook into bigger fish with that set up and im sure the largies will rail it also.

I was thinking Walmart had a good selection. I will hit Wally World Friday and get stocked up. I am thinking about maybe making another trip down to this same area soon so these items will come in handy. PS: Where is that pic of my first LMB? [cool]
If you call the pocatello fish &game office they will mail you a map of mctucker or can tell which pond is stocked with what fish it is major help on finding a certain kind of fish.......
