Anyone have some quick, last-minute tips for tlspyder and me to help the kids in our Youth Fishing class who will be fishing tonight at Lindon Boat harbor? We want to catch anything at all--even carp. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

for the kids a worm would work great. all the fish in ut lake will eat them expecially the mud cats. also have one of the more experiaced fisherman cast a 3" curly tail jig for the white bass and if he/she finds a school just have the adults cast and have the kids reel it in. i took my nefew last week and he caught about 50 fish this way. if i would have know about this earlyer i would have joined you. pm me if you want or need any more info.

Thanks for the information. It is at 6:00pm tonight, but we will also be there next week, so if you want to come and share your skills, I'm sure you are welcome. Thanks again for the info, I'll throw some grubs in my bag.

I would describe the fishing success Tuesday night as a shakey O.K. tlspyder may want to comment as well as he was also there. I know he caught one littleish crappie. The kids in my group didn't last long, a few casts, then the wind started blowing and they got cold and left. One kid had his bobber go under a few times but never got it hooked. I did have one kid (who has had a pretty hard time catching fish this year, so this was pretty cool) throw out a 2 hook rig and caught two bluegill on a single cast. That was pretty exciting for him. Anyway, success was pretty spotty, I would say that maybe 25-35% of the kids caught fish. The wind really didn't help--neither did the fact that everywhere there was even a little tiny bit of brush, somone was camped out in a lawn chair fishing (not that I blame them). Anyway, that's what went down.--Jim

For carp, just use white bread, roll it into a compact doughball about the size of a big gum ball and fish it under a bobber on a 1/0 hook. Give the fish a chance to get it in there mouth and pull the bobber all the way under before setting the hook. It's a good way to give a kid a chance to play a big fish.

Duly noted, we will give it a try this week.
