Belasko, Jetcrafter, and a couple other guys hit C.J. on May 9th and saw an anchored boat pull several 2+lb. smallies from near shore where the narrows opens up to the boat ramp. They would cast, what I think was bait, up against the shore within 10 feet and let it sit. They caught more that the highly impatient 'bass pros' that were fishing the tourney that day.
Wow, by the looks of C.J. that day you would not think there is an 'economic crisis' in the works. There were plenty of contestants and plenty of people on the water. It was good to see. I am normally a recluse river fisher so to see that many people was a bit intimidating.
We caught 35 crappie and a two bass. The bass were small.
The most successful was the Blakemore Roadrunner. Its a jig with an integrated spinner built in. We rigged 3" motor oil colored grubs on the hook and we did well. One guy jigged under the boat and did very well.
We did not see a trout picked up at all.

Thanks a ton for the info. My brother is coming from out-of-state this weekend and I've been trying to come up with a good place for us to go. I recently moved from Eastern Idaho so it's been tricky to figure out what is working this time of year. We like trout fishing but are flexible and enjoy warm-water fish as well. Any suggestions? Thanks a ton for the CJ Strike update.
