Hey all! Does anyone know where to get leaches for bait? I came across one at UL today and first cast brought in a fish large enough to break me off halfway in. I saw it come up for just a sec, then it was gone. Looked like a monster, so I gotta catch it. I haven't really thought of leeches other than the leech patterns I use flyfishing the berry, but I'd like to get ahold of some live ones for UL.

Thanks!!

Their are a few places you can get them on the internet. Most folks have one of those wife things that don't really appreciate a great big styrofoam container full of squigly blood suckers in "her" fridge.
A pound of leech's will last a long time. They are great for walleye because they stay on a hook for a long time and keep on moving forever. As long as you change the water about once a week, you can keep them alive for a year.
Be careful if you order some over the internet. I had an order that cost me a bunch of money. The post office didn't deliver it because I wasn't home. So they left it in a nice warm room all weekend and,,,, well,,, it was quite a smelly suprise when I got it on Monday.
Most live leech trappers are in the upper peninsula of Michigan. So it's quite a journey for them.
Try land O' lakes bait if you really want some. Get about four guys to go in on an order and it's not too bad.
