Looking for some advice/current reports. I have some business associates coming to town this week and we have decided to take them fishing-looking mostly for the kokes. I haven't made it up there yet this year (Weds was going to be my first time). Any suggestions on area's/what has been working lately etc would be appreciated! I have been hearing that between spring shores and arrowrock has been good with dodgers and squids but heard that report a couple weeks ago........Of course will post a complete report Weds afternoon!
Just got back an hour ago. While Friday was good, today sucked!!! Caught two and lost three. Talked to two boats who trolled all the way to Arrowrock---nothing. Best to head down the narrows. 18 feet did best, on the usual---flashers, rings, shoepeg. Heard Sunday was great. Didn't see other boats with nets out too often. Mike

Mike: So far, I've been too busy to get out but am itching for my first trip after this long, cold Spring. Have you tried the Gulp white maggots? Hearing good things about them but I'll naturally take along shoepeg...
Next week is open for me so maybe I'll see you up there. Have you hit C.J. for bows yet?
This season I want to "can" the kokes in jars. Looking for good step by step instructions. Have you done it?
Good luck to all you koke chasers. Burt

Burt,
I was just wondering what happened to you?! Glad to see you're back posting! About canning. Go to FishSniffer.com and go to Forums, then to Kokanee, and go back one page. They've been chatting about canning for some time. There are about 8 pages of recipes. In regards to C.J., we tried it once w/o any success, and so quickly switched over to crappie. I hear the bite is on at Magic, both shore and trolling. I was sure I was going to hammer them yesterday at L.P., esp. since Sunday had supposedly been a good day up there, but we went back to where we nailed 'em on Friday, and it was dead. Wen back to the point, and picked up two, and landed one. I just read a post on another site where a fellow said he had done best on a green hoochie, but I haven't done that well with them. Over at Ririe I know they like to use the "Gary" dodgers, and I might have to give them a try. Bottom line, however, is they are either hitting or not, I guess. I know they use maggots in the northern part of the state, and have talked to some at L.P. using them. Let me know if they produce. Good to hear from you and look forward to your posts. Mike

Kodiak and Aluma, this info is about 10 days old BUT I got into the trout at CJ just coming out of the narrows on the north side, flatlining rapala's. Have spent a couple hours this year already across from the Airforce ramp (same places as last year) without a single hookup. The ones I caught weren't real big, maybe 12 inches, but are pretty frisky-everyone came out of the water a couple times before I got them to the boat!

Thanks for that information, idduckhntr. Hard to beat last year at C.J. flatlining for trout with rapalas. We hit them from spring to late fall every time we went. We did have to move around until we found them. The last trip of 2008 we found them in the middle of the big pool straight out from the dam. I'm planning a C.J. trip before the end of the month. I'll try the area you suggest. Just want to try the L.P. Kokes first.
Thanks, Kodiak. I'll check ou the sniffer canning discussion. I'd sure like Kokanee all winter if I can figure out how to preserve them...[

Fishinotis,
Yes, I was going to mention that I used a pink Double Dees both times out. I have been using them on lead core, so comparing them with my two downriggers has not been a good test. The first time out, it lagged the Jack Lloyds, but on the last trip, it got a bit more action. I like the look of them in the water, and there is hardly any drag in the water. I am going to continue playing around with them for sure. Thanks again for the info, and I will keep you informed. My wife and I are heading for Magic first part of next week, weather coooperating, and I will give them a try over there, as well. Mike

Catching wasn't good at all this morining-Fishing was good though [

]! Was a great morning to be on the water, but trolled for 3 hours without a single hook up. Tried just about everything, the fish are stacked up across from spring shores pretty good-just have a serious case of lockjaw. Didn't see anyone else catching either. Heading to Strike this weekend, that will hopefully make up for it!
