O.K. so I got an urge yesterday to eat a fish, but I didnt really want white bass. Went to Lincoln beach and started out fishing inside the boat ditch.Nothing. My dog wanted to swim and bring all the sticks in to me.What a girl. After she had splashed around and piled up a good sized stack of reeds and sticks, I told her , no more swimming where I'm fishing. I moved to the south side of the dike and started casting towards the reeds. About three casts and I landed it right in the reeds. Float went down and a nice size sunnie came to shore. I tried different lengths of line between my hook and float, and tried different spots and finally found the perfect combo. 12" from float to hook and drop it right in the cattails.
I decided I needed 15 fish for a real good meal. Caught that many good ones and released about that many more. I was fishing for a little over an hour and they quit biting when the sun went down over West Mt. Stopped at three spots on the way home to get enough Asparagrus for dinner. Perfect spur of the moment fishing trip and a nice dinner to boot.
And my puppy is happy. What more can you ask for?

Great report Bob, thanks for posting it. Sounds like a great time on the pond and asparagus to boot, what a deal. What kind of pup did you get?

Hey Curt, how you doin? I got me an AKC registered Wirehair pointer. She is an awesome hunting dog. I just wish they made some kind of doggy downers sometimes. She goes 900 miles an hour for hours at a time. Great when we are hunting Chukars, but not so great when I want to relaxe for a minute and fish,or take a nap, or just sit and watch T.V. I have to throw toys for her constantly or I'm in the dog house.

Hey Bob, I was just teasing you about the pics.

I have however have had some experience with hunting dogs - retrievers in particular . If you can get with some members a local NAVDA club or similar field dog club, you will probably be able to meet some folks who can help you teach your dog how to turn on and turn off the excitement. Usually this involves reteaching the owner as well as the dog. Success in competitive dog events requires it so these people should be able to help you. There are also some very good obedience training resources (books, DVD's and seminars) out there to help you as well.

Anyway, good luck with your dog and thanks for a nice report.[cool]
