Hey, I was wondering what the conditions were like up at Mantua? I am taking my 2 boys out fishing Sat and was wondering if it would be worth it to go up and try for some gills, or head up to East canyon for trout.

I haven't fished it for a few months, so I'm not sure. But the gills and perch should start heating up as the temps go up. If they're not active right now, it won't be long.

I was there yesterday and saw no blues. Don't know why??? Did catch some LM though.

Hey Leaky! Did you keep them for dinner or throw 'em on the bank? heheh

Fished there for a few hours today and found no gills. Didnt even mark them on the finder. They have put the docks in though.

The water temps should be gettin' closer. I trolled there yesterday for trout and only got 3 in 3 hours. I did manage a few small largies.

LEAKY33!! I should have come and talked to you a bit! I just saw your picture and recognized you and the retriever immediatley! I was fishing with my father-in-law in the little aluminum boat as you were workin' your way down the north side of the point! Glad to hear you got into some fish! did the wind stay long?

On Sunday (17th) the water temp was 59-61 degrees. I caught a couple of medium sized bass, but no bluegill or perch as of yet. I found the fishing to be fairly slow, but improving.

Not to hijack the thread but quick question I was reading through some of the older posts and read that lures and plastics can not have any kind of attractant on them ????

Is this true ? I've never heard that about Manuta and couldn't find anything about it on the 2009 Proc but wanted to double check before chucking out some salted bait.

Went out this morning and caught some bass but I didn't see any bluegill or perch any where. There were a couple people fishing for them and they hadn't had any luck all day.

That regulation was done away with several years ago...I sure miss it though. I did better and thought the place was cleaner before the removed the "Artificial only". The amount of trash up there just plain sucks. I wish it was legal to shoot "litter bugs". I think they would think twice of leaving there garbage and cheap beer cans behind...

I was up there today and caught a bunch of bass and bluegills. we used plastics for the bass and flies for the bluegills.

Two of us fished Mantua this morning.
We saw you and your fly rod hooking into the Gills.
We were in the Yellow & White Tri-Hull.
We were looking for LMB and found them all around the shore lines.
Nothing very big but several were over 12".
All were returned to the water.
We did pick up a few Gills but our jigs were too big for most of the Gills to take.
We left the lake about noon and headed over to Willard.
We found some very nice Crappie there.

the bigger bluegills we were getting were about 8-9 inches, once the wind came up the action quit.

Good job, Dale! Next time shoot me an email and I'll meet you over there Smile

Lavaman,
I'll let you know when I go back to Mantua.
I want to try to catch some more LMB and see if the Gills are getting active.

I need to go there when Leaky is there.
He could show me some tips on the Bass for sure.

If we get Leaky and TD there with us, the fish don't have a chance!

The fish are ready. I took my wife up there tonite, I was teaching her how to use the lint flicker, she did good. We ended up with about 25 bluegills, 1 LMB, 1 rainbow and 8 perch.

What kind of flies do you use for the blue gills?
[signature]
I was using damsel nymphs.
