I have been reading on here about some of you guys fly fishing blackfoot res and catching giant carp. As my name indicates, i am huge into the bowfishing and was wonder how it is there. I have never been there and wanted a little info before making the drive. What areas of the lake would be best. I have a boat with a mud motor so i can get into just about any spot i need to be. Any help before i make the drive up there would really be appreciated.

I get to the res via Bone/Blackfoot res rd. Once you come to the water, there is a boat launch right there. Launch your boat and head NE. Just stay close to those banks-if you go within the next few weeks anyway. If the wind is in the forecast-stay home. That place is windy even if the forecast is CALM[crazy]! I would say you should find fish in the first 1/4 mile. I've seen others bow fishing but never actually seen them reeling in fish. Good luck!

If you go up to Blackfoot Res and the wind is blowing or no luck on the Res, try the river right below the dam. There should be tons of carp in a hole on the north side where the water comes out. You can also walk from the bridge up to the dam or from the dam down to the bridge quite easily. Many places along there where you can get a good look at the whole river. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for the info guys. I am a little concerned about the wind, my little boat does ok in it but it sure makes the fishing hard. I have heard there are some real monsters in there. I have shot plenty of 10+ pound fish down in cache valley and am ready to find something in the 20+ range. Is that a possibility there. Also was wondering what is available closer to pocatello. I just moved up from logan and need to get into some fish.
20 lb fish are quite common there there are also a few going 30 + i have caught two on that reservoir over 30 one was lower 30 and one was upper 30's

WOW, upper 30's is huge, that has to close or exceeding state records. Biggest we have ever shot in logan was 18 pounds two weeks ago. Can't wait to see if i can stick one of those big suckers. You guys think it is too early for right know or should i wait a month. I know they are hitting the banks in some spots in logan, but think it is probably a different story up there.

I've also caught them in the 20+lb range and one over 30 three yrs ago so yes...they're in there! Not too early-I went two weeks ago and was in the middle of at least 30 fish that weren't spooky. I would head up as soon as you can get away.

i know my grandfather and i wanted to bring it in but two things came into factor i actually caught the upper 30 fish bellow the damn at the reservoir and we had parked the car down river about 3/4 of a mile and walked in so i wasnt really interested in hauling a 30 + fish that far and we were in a little a car and i really didnt want that big thing just chilling in my car all the way back to Idaho falls in 90 degree weather. as for your timing now is good and it should stay good for a few weeks im heading up tomorrow with my fly rod and some buggers and prince nymphs

Try Onida for carp we seen tons of them in there last last summer just go up from the dam to the warm springs they are in there quit heavy. I hooked a 30+ pounder in there bass fishing last year so I know there are some big ones up there.

oneida is a fun place to shoot and snag them, however i have never seen any of any size in there.
Hey what is the best way to get to blackfoot. I would be coming from pocatello. thanks.
