I decided about 11:00 last night that I wanted to hit the water this morning for a short trip. Called Hart and he said he'd be happy to go. Go to HBSP just after 6am and dropped in and took off. Got to the first spot in hopes to find a good topwater bite. Well, this stretch was dead, so we made a short run to a long stretch of blowdowns and the Spook started doing it's magic. Boated 4 or 5 quick fish, but all were short. After a few more minutes we decided to make a run up north and try for a bigger bite on a shallow point with deep water nearby. Next stop produced 2 more slicks, one on a spook and one on a DD22. Started getting frustrated with the shorts, and ran back down a ways to a channel between to shallow points. Finally got a keeper to strike a Red Eye Shad on the first cast with it. Thought our luck was turning around, but that was the last bite of the day. Put the boat on the trailer around 10:30 and headed home. It was a good little quick trip, just wish the quality was a bit better.

Boated 9 in all I think, with only one that would keep at about 2.5 lbs. Most fish came to the Spook, one on a Crank, and another on the RE Shad. Had a good time and enjoyed the perfect weather. Just wish I could've found that good bite....

emoAngler
