Where are some good spots these days for float tubing at the Lake Mead or the river? I just got one for my birthday. I am also wondering what is the best way to fish from these. using lures i would guess right? or do you anchor up and bait fish or either or? What are the best types of lures for this season. Pictures would be great or links to posts youve seen this discussed before would be greatly appreciated. I have been lurking on here for a while and haven't seen too much talk about lures I don't believe. Can you catch shad from your float tube? Should i post in the float tube section, altough I am looking for answers about Lake Mead. I heard once about fishing by the buoy by the boulder harbor dock that you cant quite cast too

Went to wally world today and met a fellow tuber and learned a little from him. One thing that seems important I learned was he said to bring a club to whack the fish so they don't pop your tube. I picked up some polarized glasses so my eyes will last a little longer that came with string. I got a origianal zara spook that is silver and black at about three to four inches. A zara puppy that is prob three inches and is yellow on top and gray/clear on bottom with a red face. 1 3/4 oz blue and silver rat-l-trap. Two cotton cordells that are about 3 inches and one is blue on top and the other black and both silver on bottom with a black dot that look like the rattle trap. I also got a 1 oz silver kast master with a wite feather tail thing. I heard that it is best to cast out the kastmaster and let it sink and then reel it in fast as you can and stop every now and then. Where are the other float tubers out there???

[cool]Hey lvrider, I've been tubing mead for about six years now. All the lures you got will work. Anything that resembles a shad will get you bit. Sometimes the size of the lure may come into play. Try any of the coves around 33 hole and you'll hookup. The hike down to the water isn't bad and you can choose which cove looks the besy at the time. If you see them boiling on the shad, toss the lure past the boil or to the side. There are fish all uder the surface. I've caught them 50 yards from the surface activity on spoons and kastmasters. If you hit the center of a boil, they go down but pop up somewhere else. I've also had my tube puctured by thier spines. I don't club them but put them on a longer stringer. I like them alive before heading back in,especially when the heat is on. Good luck on your adventure.

That would make sense to keep the fish fresh as possible. What did you do with your puncture? What do you do while out on the water and u get a puncture? Swim back fast as possible? Is boulder harbor any good for floating tubing I heard there was an underwater cliff/drop that is out a little farther than you can cast from the pier. What lb test do you use? and did you make a pole rack? how many poles do you bring? do you tie your stringer to a empty plastic bottle to keep them away from the tube?

[cool]Hey lvrider, I'll try to answer your questions. I fixed my holes with glueless BICYCLE patches made by Park. They are one inch square and work great. The holes are real small and leak slowly. Just check your tube from time to time and add air when needed. If the air loss is alot, by all means get to shore! Boulder harbor is good for fishing however I haven't been there since february(and more water).I use 6 or 8lb test on my rigs. I tie my stringer to my tube. The fish on it stay away from the tube. Can't add more fish if its tied to a floating bottle. Besides, I don't want to chase it down when the fish swim off with it. I take 3-4 poles out at a time. I did make a rodholder. I'll send you a PM with pics and a website to check out. Tight lines.

Bike patches sound cheap and easy. I am definitely wanting to make a pole rack. I would just like some plans before i start chopping up pvc. I got the split fins are they any better for tubing? I went out to boulder harbor for a test run. It was really low. There is a like a finger of bank that almost closes off the harbor where there is only like 10 feet of water. Can you even catch stripers with out boils? I am becoming very frustrated trying to catch these guys. I think all my lures I got are mainly for boiling stripers or something...?? I tossed all the lures i just got for like four hours and even floated all the way out past the harbor and could see hemmingyway i think it is.

[cool]Hey lvrider, I use fins from Caddis. they are cheap and work fine. They aren't split. Just about any set of fins will propel you thru the water. Try using other lures like rattletraps, crankbaits, jigs, soft plastics, or stick baits in coves and around rocky shorelines. Look for baitfish and any area that looks "fishy". Alot of it is time spent on the water. You have to pay your dues to start connecting. You can catch them on bait or trolling. Explore areas where the stripers have been reported. Alot of the guys on this board put in alot of time on the water. Most times they are successful and sometimes they aren't. To me it is all about fun on the water and trying out new things and finding patterns that work. Good luck.
