[cool][#0000ff]TubeBabe and I had Tuesday and Thursday open on our fishing "dance card" this week. The combination of weather reports and fishing potential...along with available time...made Willard our choice for Tuesday. Yeah, the lake got hammered by the power squadrons over the holidays but we were confident we could scare something up.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Met up with tooner Wildcat84 at the parking area at Eagle Beach (north marina area) about 6 AM. Being a big beefy football player, he trudged his toon all the way down to the water...by himself. TubeBabe and I used one of my tube carts to get our Fat Cats to water's edge.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Wildcat84 caught the first fish...a nice crappie. He stayed back in the calm bay area while TubeBabe and I moved out into deeper water to drag minnows and throw crankbaits for wipers, walleyes or kitties. The first two didn't wanna play, but we each caught 4 catfish that stayed around even after all the previous day's motorized water traffic. I also managed a couple of nice crappies. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Wildcat94 got several cats and about a half dozen crappies for the day. All in all, we agreed that we hadn't done too badly for the day after a three day holiday weekend in an area that gets hammered. The weather was beautiful and water temps rose from 61 to 67 by the time we got out just after noon.[/#0000ff]

Appreciate all the pictures, TubeDude, looked like a good time. What kind of boat does wildcat have and is there a web reference? He seems to be sitting well above the water line which is how I like it. Thanks.

[cool][#0000ff]Not sure exactly which model, but it is one of the Trout Unlimited toons. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Most good toons should float you plenty high if you buy them for proper weight ratings and balance the weight load...especially if you have added a motor and heavy battery like he has.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Here is a link to his profile, if you would like to shoot him a PM. He mostly hangs out on the Utah board but maybe we can get him over here if you ask nice.[/#0000ff]

I am wondering where his numbers are. If it has a motor of any kind, it needs to be licensed. That is one thing I am very conscious of, it is the law[mad]
Next is the PFD.

Hey, thanks Pike for that reference. It's between one of the classics or a smaller 6' or so version of the frameless type like flygoddess has. Should there be such a frameless thing, it might be better for packing. Has to sit up high since I don't use waders, like wildcat. I don't need the weight capacity for the stuff I carry, but do need the water clearance without sacrificing good stability.

Hi, goddess. Wonder what the penalty is for PFD and numbers infractions in your state? There are so few wardens in Texas that I've only been checked about a dozen times for fishing license in 45 years of minimum monthly fishing trips with or without toon. Don't have to display fishing license above the waist, like CA. Mostly they can't figure what to do with tubes and toons and just scratch their heads and leave alone, whether powered or not. I did get numbers for my toon after a warning about 10 years ago, but they are difficult to display with some of the other stuff hanging on sides and so I coil up and carry in my bags when in low traffic areas. Registrations transfer to the few other states I've been to. Do you need separate registration in Ut, Id, Wa,etc.? I use an inflatable PFD which is a lot more comfortable and legally OK here.

You just need to license your boat for whatever state you are from. Like a BOAT, the letters/numbers must be 3" or 4" and must be displayed in sight along with the state sticker. Plexi glass or siding make good plates, then just strap them to the frame.
I have found, sticking them to the boat itself not a good choice as the expansion of the toons ruins the stickers.
I think it is $50. for no PFD and kicked off the water till you get one, and I THINK $75. or more for no license ON your boat.
As far as fishing permits, I carry mine in my wallet, but easy enough to get to when needed.
