Well, I watched the radar this morning and hit the river just after the rain left. I netted a half dozen golden shiners again but no shad, so I stopped and caught a dozen and a half bluegills on worms before searching for the catfish. Things were really slow despite the increase in flow until 3:30, when for no obvious reason, the bite started BIG time. Every pass yielded good bites and good fish until a little after 4:30, when the fish quit again. I double-checked the flows, and there was no change this afternoon, so I really don't have any idea why they turned on. Maybe the sun, moon, and stars aligned perfectly for a short time.

When the dust settled, I had boated a 48, a 40, a 30, a 15, and a 12. I didn't even photograph the little 30. emoBigSmile In addition, I landed 11 other blue cats today, none under 6 pounds. One big bluegill lasted for several nice fish. The more skinned and beat-up it got the better it worked. There wasn't a scale left on it by the time I lost it. The golden shiners were BIG and also worked well, but are not as tough as the 'gills and I lose them very easily.

I watched the rain storms go around me today with only a couple of sprinkles hitting me, and I timed my return to the ramp perfectly between two heavy downpours that I could see in the distance. On the way home I couldn't hardly see the road for a while, and when I got home and pulled the plug, the boat drained rainwater for 5 minutes! Well, she needed a good bath anyway!!
