Spent 5 hrs. on the water with out much luck. Did catch 3 eyes up to 23 1/2 inches and lost 2 at the net. And 1 small cat fish rounded out the day.
Bugs were terrible around the N. marina ( must have been a fresh hatch ) But they weren't to bad over by the feed lot.
Water temps in the low 70s and watched a few boats pulling cranks and catching a few fish (looked like wipers) to me.
All my fish came on bouncers and blades.

Looks like it's time to break out the cranking rods [cool].

Color, Depth, Trollng speed, what part of the lake for the time of year, how much line is out,Time and date of year, water temp. pressure,do not mean to rub it in, how ever if these things are not taken into consideration you might as well stay home.
I landed 7 wiper and 2 crappie in 3 hours, SEE POST
I seen you out there Thursday, would be gald to show you you some tricks to willard, after many years and a lot of Sad times, I now have quite a book of what to expect for what time of year at willard.

FishNCoach:
Thanks for the offer and advice. I've got a few years on Willard my self. 38 to be exact.
A guys never to old to learn new tricks. Now if you were talking walleyes...I would be all ears.
I don't pay much attention to the wipers. I do pick up a few here and there ...but there accidental hook ups while targeting eyes.
Wipers are the main reason I don't like pulling cranks at Willard...you can't keep the darn things off [crazy]
Now if you want to talk about Willard walleyes, maybe I can show you a few tricks [Wink]

WB is a funny place. One day I caught 14 walleye in two hours trolling cranks, and another time caught only wipers on crawler harnesses.

I'd be happy to listen to anything people have to say about fishing up there. I've only been on it about 15+ years.

I monitor channel 68, 16, and a few others. It would be nice to be able to chat with others up there.

I would love to learn a few tricks with Waleyes, the darn thing's are tricky, I do great at wiper. It seems that the waleyes I do catch are always on deep bottom divers, and some times I have used leed (sp) core line to get to the bottom. and sorry on the age there Bud, I to have many years in at the Bay but it changes all the time.

Willard can be a finicky darn lake. Feast or famin seems like.
The only time I can consistantly target eyes on cranks are when the wipers are boiling...and later in the fall.

My go to eye baits are allways bouncers and even then the wipers will hit them [mad]

If you really want to catch "JUST" any fish during the summer, pull cranks and take the occasional eye with the wipers.
If your targeting just walleyes put the cranks away and get the bouncers/crawler harnesses out.

Not to apoligize on the age thing. I know you meant well [Smile]
