Yesterday Windriver his son and I headed over to the Preston Area for some fishing. We fished Twin Lakes in the morning catching quite a few bluegill on fly rods. We also caught a few bass and crapie.
We headed over to Condie in the afternoon and caught 12 bass with the biggest around 16 inches. We had to work hard for the bass because the weather was not ideal for fishing. It was pretty windy and tough to control your line.
Windriver made the most unusual catch of the day. He cast too far and his senko went right over the top of a 5 foot bush and while he was trying to get the snag loose we noticed a bass jumping beside the bush. He wasn’t snagged he had actually caught a bass on the back side of the bush. We were able to get the line off the bush and he landed the fish. Here are a few pictures from the trip.

Nice report. Seems Condie was the same for you as it was for me. Nothing over 16". I did enjoy fishing there tho. There is something about the shape of the lake and the water that I really like. Sounds like a good trip. Every one caught fish and looks like there was one happy boy also.

For a nine year old Windrivers boy can really fish. He stayed with it all day and I never heard one word of complaint from him. There are quite a few adults that could learn a few things from him.
Over all a great day.

Fished Glendale and Twin hard from last thursday till early this morning before coming back home. Camped at Glendale and thats the last time ill camp there, man so many utahns camped in there, not to start a war, and I dont mean it that way, but we had two UT campers pull up right next to us with in spitting distance after I had been set up there for 2 days. Any as for the fishing, you better be off the water by 11 am at the latest on glendale, and its about a week to 10 days way. Lots of crappie on the nests but wont bite, lot of bass hitting from what i did see other catching, and no gills yet. I did catch 5 great sized crappie in 2 hard days of fishing.
On Twin, i echo the statement, on crappie and gills, still about next weekend it should be hot hot hot on these species.
Not sure what happened the last two years on the crappie or descent size gills but it appears they are on their way back, a lot fo small ones but a lot of decent size ones is you will be patient too.
Also, guys, both fish and game and the county sherriff were on the water, and were checking everything on Twin. Including the noxious weed sticker and said that by the middle of june, it would be enforced in Franklin County unless things changed they said and no one from Utah had heard about it so i guess better get the word spread
Any how was good to get out and finally see that things are on the up swing. Happy fishing to all.

SF,
I was at Twin Lakes Saturday also so we probably bumped into each other. I had a good day also and caught a couple on the fly rod just to say that I did it. Otherwise I was pretty serious and trying to get enough fish for several fish fries since it is rare to have them so vulnerable. I tried to keep 8" and above but noticed several 7.5 inchers inadvertently made the cut. I came home with 54 bluegill and 2 crappie in about 4 hours of fishing. You had to find a spot in the willows that could be fished to find keepers since they had been hit hard the previous weekend. I will attach some photos.

Great Report. I'll be down in Malad for a week in a couple weeks so I'll be fishing all over that area quite a bit.

We had to get into the willows to find the bigger bluegill and that made it tougher to fish with the flyrod.

I hit Condie yesterday too. I got a late start and didn't make it onto the water until noon. It took me a little while to really get into them, but once I did I had some pretty fast fishing until the wind kicked up. Then I really had to work for the last few. I ended up landing 13 bass in the 12-17" range, and one greedy perch. I went over to Oneida after I got sick of the wind. I ended up taking 19 smallmouth and 2 small walleye. Overall the bass size is down from the past couple of weeks. 12" was a larger fish this time. Overall a pretty fun day.

Man, you guys are making it hard for me to stay home. Those are some nice looking fish. I would love to get back down there and hit some more bass and nice sized BG and Crappie, or even some more Walleye. I wish there were was some place closer around my area that had warm water species in it with some size to the fish. Filleting a 6" BG is a waste of time. I need to stop drueling on the keyboard and go fishing.

We probably saw you there we were floating around in a drift boat. We waited out the wind and the fishing was better after the wind let up.

I may have missed you, I only saw motor boats when I was there, I left about 3. It was my first time at Condie, and I'll definitely be back. Those were good healthy fish. I actually thought about returning toward evening to see if things had picked back up, but the smallmouth kept me occupied.

My brother and I fished oneida as well saturday. Fished from 6am to about noon. It was nice to finally get into some fish. We boated probable 30 smallies, 5 gills, 1 perch, and 1 eye. Most of the smallies were dinks, but fun to catch. We caught about 10 over the 12 inch size limit and kept a handful for a fish fry. They were dang taste. Biggest smallie was about 3 pounds.
Sounds like you guys found some bigger smallmouth than I did. 12" was about the biggest I got this time. They're still a ton of fun on a light rod though. I'm hoping to make it back up soon.

well you guys all talked me into it i am going fishing tomorrow. Great pics and reports.

Most of the ones that were over the 12 inch mark were just over. Mostly between 12 and 13. I caught one that was probable 15 and my brother caught the big one. What made the day even better is after we had the fish fry we decided to use the rib meat for some catfish bait. My brothers lives out by benson marina so we rigged up the ultralight for the cats. Only fished for about 45 minutes. We both caught 2 fish. They weighed 6,7,7,8.5 pounds. Now that is a lot of fight for a ultralight with 6 lb test line. It was a blast. If we get some nice weather i'll be headed back sometime this week.
Were the smallies right up by shore? I wish there was more time, now I want to go look for cats too. Benson is pretty close to where I live too, but Idaho keeps calling me.

we seemed to catch them anywhere from within a few inches of the bank to about 20 feet out. However we seemed to catch the larger ones out a litter further after getting it away fro the smaller fish. That was were i caught the eye and the perch. We also caught a 4-5 in the river on the way out. All small except one about 12 inches. I had another bigger one follow and hit but i missed him.
You might want to look at a proclamation. It is unlawful to use game fish or any part of a game fish as bait with the exception of yellow perch they may be used as bait white bass in utah lake also all others off limits.
ignorance is no excuse[

Thanks for the heads up even though i think that is the most stupid thing i have ever heard. We did catch a perch so who knows maybe it was perch rib meat that i used. [

] What is the difference between using perch rib meat and something else???

I will have to head back up there and try for the larger fish. I kept marking schools of fish in about 20 feet of water. I also thought I felt some taps when I dropped my lure down there. So I'm guessing I found some perch schools. I didn't have anything small enough out in my tube, but I'm going to have to check it out next time.
As for not using game fish meat, I guess they're probably just concerned that people might kill fish just for the sake of using them for bait, and they don't want that. That's my take on it in any case.
