CLACKAMAS, Ore. - Oregon and Washington fishery managers announced today the closure of sturgeon retention on the mainstem Columbia River and tributaries from Bonneville Dam to The Dalles Dam (Bonneville Reservoir) effective 12:01 a.m. June 6.

The 2009 white sturgeon harvest guideline for this reservoir is 700 fish, which managers predict will be met on June 5.

The Dalles Reservoir was closed to sturgeon retention on April 19 and the John Day Reservoir was closed on April 13. All three reservoirs remain open for catch-and-release fishing for white sturgeon through the end of the year except in designated sturgeon sanctuaries in place from May 1-July 31 immediately below The Dalles and John Day dams. Refer to page 94 the 2009 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations for detailed descriptions of these areas and applicable rules.

Sturgeon retention on the mainstem Columbia River between Bonneville and McNary dams will resume on Jan, 1, 2010.
