fished Newton on 6/3 & had the best the best trip I've ever had up there. 6 tigers in about 3 hrs. Tried a follow up visit on 6/5 & it wasn't as good 1 in about 6 hours. but it was good to get out. Roughin it outdoors was up there on 6/5 so Newton will prob see a lot more pressure in the up coming weeks. pic's are not great, self photography with an iphone on water makes for a bad combination. All were caught using perch & crappie colored crank baits covered with salmon hammer smelly jelly.

I fished the exact same two days that you did, and had some similar results. Onely I did not land any on friday and fished about four hours. I could not believe the amount of boats on the water Friday. I was the 16th boat to launch at 7:45 AM. The only good news was that 15 of the boats were fisherman. Thank God they were not water skiers. I was trolling in a white boat. I will be out there again I will stop and say hi!! Good work!![

Sounds like I'll stick to fishing Idaho. Though I'll take other fishermen over skiers any day. Hopefully there's a silver lining to this sudden surge in popularity.

I think your pics are great! I especially liked the one with the fish across your lap.[cool]

Those tigers look scary no kidding.
Those teeth! Eeeeks![shocked]
If I caught one of those I'd like throw it back fast before it ate me.
Do those tiger muskies roar like Godzilla? Or hiss?
Do they have venom in their teeth?

It's only going to get worse for that tiny reservoir. Especially with as much airtime it's getting on sports shows, etc.
Good fisheries don't stay good when they're advertised. Simple as that.

Nothing against this site............BUT IT ISNT HELPING!!
I have fished Newton for twenty plus years and I dont think I have ever seen as many fishing boats/Fisherman as I did saturday, plenty of them with Big Fish Tackle stickers. Then of all things on Friday there is Adam Eakle with 2 news running a show on it, UNBELIEVABLE!! Thank god its all catch and release on the muskies.
Oh well, better enjoy it while it lasts, its days are numbered!!

I have always thought anytime any good fishing hole gets any attention from the media its doesnt take long and that fishing hole is not good for very much longer[:/] just my thoughts on it

good comments ntrl born rebel, I could not agree with you more. I think that this site is great for info, but there was a lot of boasting about Newton last year. Now look at what we have. Newton is a pretty small reservoir, I have also fished it for over 20 years and have never seen the pressure that it is getting today. I guess people can't consider themselves good unless they boast.[:/]

And some people can't boast because there not good![

Reality is this Newton is a small lake and if it's getting so much pressure I would think that people are going to stop going to it,Fisherman are all alike and really don't like crowds on any water.Give it a few weeks maybe a month and it will be all yours again.
Just my 2cents

So whats this site for? I don't consider someone posting a report boasting....and I hope TMAS is right that we overcrowd the power squadron out there.

Like I stated before, I sure wish the DNR could stock other resevoirs in the State with Muskie/Pike. I think that would help a BUNCH cause when all you have to choose from is the view or newton for muskies, it dosent take long for it to get busy.
Oh and by the way, did anyone else notice all those IDAHO licence plates this weekend........[
] for once i get to complain about out-of-staters fishing our waters.....just razzin ya'all[cool]

They cant even restock the lakes that have tigers. All the muskie populations are deseased. So there is nothing to cross breed the pike with. Thats why they are catch and release only!

Im well aware of this, but this only happened last year......what about the past 10-15 years when muskie had no disease, 2 lakes, c'mon!! Not to mention the walleye, catfish, bass and panfish!! Look at Hyrum res. for instance, use to be one of the best places to fish for bass/panfish now the average guy cant even catch a fish out of there. But this is all another debate.............[fishin]

Fishin fool, This site is great for sharing info. Maybe I am just stingy and don't want to share my secrets about my hometown fisheries. I have thousands and thousands of fishing pics, I share them with friends and family. I do agree with all of you, I don't mind fisherman, and struggle more with the water skiers!![

I agree fisherman dont like crowds but fisherman do like big fish and as long as they are in newton ppl will be there.

Wehave fished newton alot, yesterday my buddy went fishing there and said he found a 36" tiger muskie dead on the bank. I think we might see more of this unfortuanately.
