[]Just wanted to Thank everyone with the DWR and others that helped out with the kids day and fishing derby at pelican lake yesterday.
Took my son to pelican lake yesterday didnt know that it was kids day with a fishing derby for them to bring in their biggest fish for a chance at a prize. They had a great trailer with dwr and others helping out with some TEE shirts and give aways for little anglers and also had boats to take anglers that dont have a boat out on the water for some bluegill fishing. Everyone had a great time with lots great people helping and teaching anglers to catch bluegills and bass.
I took my son over into the reeds and put a worm on and helped him cast it out and told him to watch the line and feel for a bite. I no sooner picked up a pole to catch a bluegill when a bass took the worm and started to go. He set the hook and 5 minutes later we got it out of the reeds. It was 18" largemouth and the first largemouth bass he has ever caught.
He was really excited and was able to enter it in the derby and won a new fishing pole combo and some line. He was really excited about it all and is supposed to get his picture in the paper with the DWR. He caught the biggest fish of the day they said. Hes really excited and cant wait to go back again. The water temp was 66degs in the am and about 68degs at 2pm when we pulled out to head home.
