I have an 16.5 foot open bow outboard boat and was looking for some ideas on some ways to keep the rods out of the way when not being used other then the floor. Out peoples way. does anyone have any good contraptions they have thought of to keep the rods off the floor when not being used and keep them from getting tangled up? I was thinking of some kind of rack then went across the back of the boat. thanks for any ideas or things that you might use.

I use a portable rod rack that Cabelas made that I love. It holds something like 10 poles, and works perfectly to hold the rods in the boat, in the truck, on the wall of the garage, and anywhere in between. Unfortunately I can't find it on Cabela's site anymore and I'm wondering if they discontinued it.
Here is a couple of similar ideas I found on eBay:

i am looking for a way to mount it on the back end either with suction cups or something to that nature so its out of the boat between the motor and the seats.

that would really depend on the size / shape of the back of your boat. I'm assuming it's an o/b motor. My old trihull didn't really have a place on the back you could mount anything like that without it interfering when you need to lift the motor out of the water....and there was more than one time I had to quickly lift it as I got into shallower waters. I wouldn't want to have to try to hurry and move the poles then lift the motor if you need it done quickly....
If your boat does have room back there for it, and a good flat spot on each side, I would just get the 2 piece rod holders you can get at walmart or any sporting goods shop. They are made to mount along the side of the boat, but would easily work on the back of a boat too.
