Well guys jut got back from California after some good salt water fishing. I took a charger boat out of Redondo Beach for like 70 bucks a day because I didn't have any tackle and wanted to see what was needed or it was only 35.00 bucks have your fishing license and gear. Well the first day I kept loosing my bait to the barracuda, probably lost about 20 bites and half of my live bait with it but then I had help from one of the guys fishing that day and my luck changed for ever...funny how different it is fishing fresh to salt water but now I know here are a few pics of the barracuda. But you know I had to do it again I was ready after asking people and watching people fish for one day I came back Friday for a second round and let me tell you after about 50 fish on the boat and two of my lines being broken off by some big sea bass I want to do it again. What a rush when you have a huge fish on the line and you know your test line is 40 and it breaks it off in two pulls but then you see someone else catch a fish that could have been yours wow!!!! Going back in August for a third round but this time I will bring my own gear... See pics of some of the fish I got.

Nice Pictures!
I am head to So Cal the middle of July and am planning on going out for 1/2 day. What are some things you learned that you would mind sharing? They catch quite a few barracuda during the time I will be down.
This will be the third time for me fishing the California coast, all out of different areas. The first was back in the 80's. The last time I went was almost 13 years ago. I am really looking forward to it again.
You can PM if you want.

Practice makes perfect, we have caught fish over 100+ on 40 lb test. Black Seabass, they must be released . Have caught them at Long Beach breakwall with 20 lb. Can't horse them have too tire them out. The Yellowfin in my avitar was caught on 50 lb and it weghed 215. You need too go out and catch some Yellowtail they will give you a great fight

Wow, that brings back memories! I started my salt water fishing career there at Redondo, fishing around Palos Verdes. Half day runs on the "CIty of Redondo" and the "Redondo Special". Great days! Good Times! Glad you got to partake.

the only thing i can say it's you have to let the barrecuda take your bait for about 2-3 seconds you can't just tug it if you fill a pull they have to get it in their mouth compleatly and i can bouch for that because the was the only way i was able to land one. Another guy that was fishig with us had a huge rapala that resamble a mackral and he kept bringing them on board and another guy was using a spoon and they were the ones that kept bringing the fish on the boat. Overall during that trip there were about 60 fish that were landed but only a few were of legal size.

I lived in Socal until 1982. We used to fish off the rocks in Palos Verdes, Pt Vicente to be exact. We'd also go up to Paradise Cove to rent one of their fiberglass tubs w/6HP motors. The bait well was built into the boat, and hung down into the water. It had holes in it to allow water to circulate. We rarely caught anything of size.
For the last nine years I've been trailering over to Washington, fishing salmon, and the last three years, tuna. What a blast.

Hey Paddler, nice shot of the albie still in the water. It's hard to get photos that do those beautiful fish justice. You nailed it.

Thanks, Jim. They really light up, don't they? Can't wait till August.

August is a good month most fish will be in range for an overnight trip. The Tunas should be within 100 miles of shore and Yellowtails, Dorado should be on the Kelp Patties. Throw iron at them or get up in the front of the boat and be the first one too throw out with live bait. Use swimbaits when others are trolling and throw towards the fish being reeled in, never fails should catch them.

I fish out of La Push, WA. It's a wonderful place.
We take my 20' Hewes out as far as ~50 miles for the albies, nearer shore for salmon. I troll for the most part, the usual clones, cedar plugs, Zukers, etc, and throw swimbaits out once we're hooked up. Maybe some eotics this year, they already caughtan Opah out of Humboldt.
Use the downriggers for salmon, spoons or hoochies behind flashers.

I like fishing the Cudas with the 3oz Maga Bait. Anchovy color. The also do good on the purple Tady C. Let it sink to a 10 count and just start reeling in. It will be fish on for sure.[cool]
