Any of the boat harbors work I like Lindon lots of blue gills /white bass.. For large mouth i like a bit further north but are all over the place i usually dont fish off shore and have not had a lot of luck with largies off shore but spinner baits work well -good luck

anybody know where to catch some cats at utah lake off the shore?

[cool][#0000ff]There has not been much good bank tanglin' for cats lately, but still lots of them coming from along the reeds if you can approach them from the water in a boat or float tube.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I would say your best bet would be from the dikes at Lindon or from the shoreline at the Knolls. The fish are active but they move in and out with weather fronts moving through.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Should improve a lot after about midweek...if Mama Nature goes back on her meds.[/#0000ff]

yea, they didnt like me much today. Wanted to take my daughter to get her a nice kitty while my dad is resting from the willard trip friday. we went to the two marinas and didnt get so much as a bite.....well, i also forgot the worms [laugh] they didnt like the shad meat lol

" they didnt like the shad meat lol "

[cool][#0000ff]I am guessing that you were using the packaged preserved shad you buy from the store. Illegal to use fresh or frozen shad in Utah. What's worse is that preserved stuff catches more fishermen than fish. People think it is a "natural" bait so it should work well. But, the preservatives they put in it seem to turn the fish off and I don't know anybody who has ever done well with it.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Don't forget the worms next time. But you should also try to get some minnows, carp meat and/or white bass meat. Those natural baits will do a lot better...but only if the fish are inshore and active. If nothing else, bring a few hot dogs and cut them into bait sized chunks. Hold the mustard.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Let me know next time you guys are heading south and I will fix you up with some "catfish candy". [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]On another note, have you ever tried fishing off the North Dike, out past the outflow gate? That can be a great place to score some cats and some wipers too.[/#0000ff]

yea that was a dumb move, was going to stop and get some, but didnt see any stores off the exit, so thought would just try the shad meat. Yes its store bought. Wipers in Utah lake or are you talking willard? Actually that was my first time there. We normally fish strawberry in the summer, havent been doing so good there this spring so have been going to willard, mostly because the weather. The first two trips were great, the one on friday sucked. Maybe have to try utah lake with the boat. Hate the bugs tho. Thats what we like about strawberry, no bugs, no skiiers.

[cool][#0000ff]There are bugs around all the lowland lakes, but I think Willard is probably the worst for those annoying midges. Skeeters at both Utah Lake and Willard, since there is marshy area around both.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Wipers only at Willard, but lots of white bass on Utah Lake. A lot bigger kitties too...at Utah Lake. No cats or wipers at Strawberry...theoretically. You never know what the bucket biologists have been up to lately.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]One good thing about getting skunked. You can't do much worse on your next trip.[/#0000ff]

Speaking of UL, we braved the weather and hit LBH on Saturday, along with the $5 day permit. (Didn't want to drive all the way to Lincoln Beach.) Crowded- lots of people out wetting their lines; wondering if Lindon is always like that?

Slowwww. My brother caught 2 crappies and a 'gil, and I only landed 1 'gil. And that was all she wrote before the lightning and clouds starting rolling in. I told him the 'gils are bigger up at Mantua but that's subject to opinion. The kicker of the day though- some folks were fishing along the north dike and came back with a stringer full of kitties. One was over 10 lbs.! He also had a real nice walleye to his collection. There's not a kitty limit on UL is there?

T.D. is right, when the fronts come rolling along, the kitties love to move and the trick is just finding them. We were just at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Lindon is often crowded, especially in the evenings and the weekends. The channel cat limit at Utah Lake is 8. The mudcat limit is 24. The catfishing has been good for a month or so at Lindon. It should only get better as they spawn. Fish outside the harbor.

Thanks for the reply. Being away from UL for so many years, I forget the regulations and what not.

This stringer that this guy had was chalk full of Channels. T.D. would be proud. Like I said one was over 10 lbs. and several were around the 5-7 lb. range.

We were fishing both inside and outside the harbor, rigged with bobber and worm, and also sinker and worm...just a slow day overall in that vicinity. Still fun to get away even if it was a 2 hr. drive.

use raw shrimp with no weight and leave your bail open when you see line going out simply close the bail and hold on
