Howdy y'all! I was out on Utah Lake today. There was lots of great vegetation that looked awesome for bass, especially in Provo bay. But, between the three of us, we didn't even draw a strike from a variety of lures. Anyone have any suggestions for this lake... where and what? I'm targeting largemouth and crappie, but any fish species tips would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

[cool][#0000ff]You are right. There is a lot of fishy looking cover. But, that is a mixed blessing. Plenty of cover for the fish and not all of it holds fish. It's the old 90-10 rule: 90 percent of the fish will be in only 10 percent of the water. You can fish the entire shoreline of Utah Lake with everything in your tackle box. And, chances are that you will only catch a few fish in a few spots.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]As suggested, Utah Lake is tougher to fish than it may appear. Some regulars devote years to learning it and still do not score on every trip. But, once you learn a few of the "money" spots, and how to fish them, you have the opportunity to rassle some hogs. Lots of BIG bass in Utah Lake, but they do not bite for everybody. As many dedicated bassers will attest, it is often the worm dunker fishing a crawler under a red and white bobber who ends up catching more and bigger bass than the guy in a tricked out bass sled with a million dollars worth of gear.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The guys who know the lake best are usually pretty secretive about their favorite spots and techniques. And, they should be because there are a lot of happy harvesters who keep all they catch (in violation of the 12" release law). But, if you can coax some PM info out of them, or get them to show you the ropes, you can join their ranks.[/#0000ff]
